Houston fires Holgorsen.... Houston has a massive donor base, and has shown to quickly move on from a coach, whereas WVU is usually more patient. If you go to many of the Cougar boards they are already calling for it in Houston...

Last year did buy him a bit more time, but shoot man they fired the other coach for winning 10 games, haha.. I suppose it depends how they do in their conference this year. I havent researched their strength of schedule this year, but in general I think if Brown manages to win 7+ games this year, we should be a 10+ win team next year(if JTD stays for a second year & Considering our roster), which will put most fans at ease and buy Brown a couple more years...

They may keep Holgorsen until after their first year in the Big12.... Because hes so familiar with that process & the league... So he can sell them on why hes the best option for that introductory year/process... I dont think however hell last after the first year in the Big12.... I think Houston will be a bottom feeder for the first few years at least. Out of all the new BIg12 programs, Houston has by far the biggest improvement to make before they are Big12 / P5 ready...

If Brown wins less than 7 games this year, I think Shane will still give him 1 more year. Simply due to his contract buyout, and it would make it easier for us to pay it and find a quality replacement. That said......

Who would you hire to replace Brown?

Its not good enough to just fire someone, you need a logical justification to who you could realistically afford to get that would be a better option.

Hugh Freeze would probably be my top pick. As long as our Country Roads Trust could promise $2-3mill+ per year for NIL... Which I think would be enough to get the base talent needed for Hugh to be successful.

WVU needed to make some serious progress in 2022, so far they have not and this coaching staff may be history. It may sound brutal but this is a results-oriented business and if the results aren't there, people lose their jobs.

After three years and three games, West Virginia is 18-20 under head coach Neal Brown and currently staring at the schedule, its a tough slog to decide if we are able of winning at least six games to get to a bowl game.

Lyons gave Brown a contract extension two years ago and needs a justification for the buyout and contract. Currently, Neal Brown is contractually signed through 2026. The way his buyout is structured requires the Mountaineers to pay 100% of the remaining contract if Brown is let go before December 31, 2024, which is why I always thought Brown would be here through 2024 at least. Once 2025 comes around, the buyout reduces to 85% of the remaining buyout.

WVU won’t be fantasizing about poaching other Power Five coaches. With 4 million probably being the cap for WVU.

Under the Ole Miss Football program Freeze committed various recruiting and academic violations that figured in the NCAA's decision to expunge 27 of Freeze's wins and ban it from post-season play for two years. He resigned from Ole Miss after officials discovered that he had used a university cellphone to call escort services multiple times over the course of five years.

No thanks to Hugh Freeze

Luke Fickell will stay at Cincinnati until he gets offer from NFL, a big time SEC job or Ohio State. Cincinnati would be P5 so he will stay there. He is already making 4 million plus.

Jason Candle is a good possibility to replace Brown. Candle replace Campbell when he left Toledo for Iowa State. I would not mind hiring Candle. But then again Candle is only 26-21 at Toledo after starting out 21-7 with Campbell players.

Bill Clark UAB 49-26 (60-30 overall)
Jamey Cahdwell Coastal Carolina

Me I would look at Jason Candle or Jamey Caldwell

Fickell is great. Why not? I mean, he probably won’t come here now, but we could’ve had him. Instead Shane went with Neal Brown. It was down to Fickell and Brown. And honestly, at the time, either choice would’ve been good.

Fickell couldn’t even lead a premier program in Ohio State. And for our sake, he didn’t like Morgantown.

Fickle has done a great job at Cincy and will do well in thenew Big 12. He would do well in a lot of places. My question is who does Nebraska go after???? I remember that job used to be a top 5 job and I am sure Nebraska and the BIG would love to see Nebraska back to that type of standard
