There were several teams this year that didn't live up to expectations. Who are your candidates and why?

From my perspective I thought that Brother Rice was solid on offensive and defense and really liked the talent on that team. Mount Carmel also had a ton of talent. Liked both teams and was disappointed that they didn't do better this year.

Marist had a decent regular season. Thought the loss at home to New Trier was a bad loss, considering all they had back from their 8A runner-up finish in 2015.

I was kinda shocked that Both Stevenson and Neuqua exited the playoffs in round one. I thought both were going to make a decent run and stick around for a couple/three games.

The freak out over Wm. Fremd beating Brothet Rice in the playoffs on the Crusaders' home field registered on the Richter Scale.

My neck of the woods, Stevenson and maybe Cary Grove (Build up to PG rematch that never happened).

Thought the CCL Blue, in general, was weak. Rice loses 3 to finish the season. MtC pumps it's chest winning a Prep Bowl after missing the playoffs, Rita one and done....Providence two year streak w/ no playoffs after winning 7A...and the top team in the state all year, Loyola, losing to an team they beat before.

HF could be up there too. Every year it's "Their year"....only to see them fall early in playoffs

I'm not trying to start some sort of you-know-what contest with you, but I believe that the chest pumping was well deserved. We came back to beat two schools who beat us during the regular season. Overall, we won four games because of the Prep Bowl.

Re Stevenson, I usher at a mass attended by a huge Stevie fan who's seriously disabled. Their first round loss was very tough on him. Normally, we give each other some good natured grief, but not this time.

JCA 1-8 I didn't see that coming.
Bolingbrook-athletes, facilities coaching all seem to be in place but only 4 wins.

When Griffith left just before season, all MC fans on here pretty much were thinking 6-3 at best it seemed. Not shocked at the 4-5 considering they had nothing back front 7 either when another LB chose not to play. They were over ranked in preseason polls based on reputation. Overall underperformed not making playoffs but not shocked at all.

All good points, but the Rita, PC and Montini losses were all bad losses.

I have never known a Lenti MtC team to pump it's chest when it missed the playoffs.

In the Wheaton area St. Francis had a disappointing season after making the semifinals two years ago, and Wheaton-Warrenville South has been down for a few years now.

Of the three Wheaton teams, I'd say WN was the most disappointing, though. They had a number of 3-year starters on this year's team. I know the DVC is tough, but to not make the playoffs was a disappointment. Expectations were higher than that.

Laurence wasn't predicted to make the finals. They were the 3rd best catholic in 6A (SHG and Montini) Phillips was a team that was always penned as a back top back champs, so they would be a good call.

Hard to have Phillips when they made a semifinal.

Let me tell you...the crying after they lost to Johnsburg. Few parents seriously complained the IHSA was racist making them travel up there on that Friday night. When excuses are that over the top...you under achieved.

Kinda hard to believe that considering this isnt the first time Phillips traveled to Johnsburg on a Friday night.
Even though they made the semifinals, they underachieved imho because they were expected to reach the finals and played the worst game I've seen them play this year.

So they didn't underachieve because they made the finals, got it.

Typically the home team make up an excuse to have the game time they desire. The traveling team has rights and can push the issue. I know of a team that tried to push Friday night because of prior commitments at the field. IHSA told that team to either find an alternate location or host at their field Saturday afternoon. The game end up being Saturday afternoon. My guess is Phillips was a little confident and felt they would win regardless.
