Which transfer of ours do you think could have had the best career if they stayed at Duke?

Out of the players that transferred recently, who do you think could have had the best career if they would have stayed at Duke?

Here are our (recent) transfers:

• Jordan Tucker (2018)
• Chase Jeter (2017)
• Sean Obi (2016)
• Derryck Thornton (2016)
• Semi Ojeleye (2014)
• Alex Murphy (2013)
• Michael Gbinije (2012)
• Olek Czyz (2010)

* I’m not counting Rasheed Sulaimon because his transfer wasn’t really because he was wanting more playing time or unhappy with how he was being used.

Gbinije and Semi had pretty decent college careers anyway, so I'd think Thornton would have ended up with a better career.

I had high hopes for several of those guys, but to answer the question, I would go with Thornton

Semi definitely reminds me of Zion-light.. would have loved to see what he could have did at Duke as an upperclassman.

Really could have used McCaffrey in 93, especially when Hurley got hurt.
One of my "dream" Duke scenarios is McCaffrey sitting out 92 and playing on the 93 and 94 teams.

Who went to Memphis a little while back? Got the hardship waiver. He was good and I think did alright.

Btw, been following this site since Lance Thomas was being recruited and finally went ahead and made an account

Welcome to the board. Have fun. I know you will because you didn't begin your 1st post as " I come in peace. " Dead give away for trolls. OFC

I’m actually going with Eric Boateng. Dude was long and with time and fundamentals, could have been a strong defensive presence.

Too far out in date?

Would have been really cool to see Semi develop into a star.

Hurley didn't get hurt in 1993. Did you mean Grant Hill?

K did offer McCaffrey the chance to sit out the 1992 season to give him a year of separation from Hurley. McCaffrey declined.

And yes, a redshirt senior McCaffrey on a 1994 team that reached the title game anyway would have been way cool.

Semi. I’d probably list Thornton as second on that list. He’s had bad distractions in his ear for a long time. Unfortunate.

I'd say McCaffrey too. He could have been a difference maker for that 93-94 team. I think he would have really helped with his shot and distribution skills.

Thanks Jim, knew we had a major player out for a bit.
Elliot William's would have been great his second year for us.
Kind of surprised more guys who aren't top 30-40 recruits for us dont consider a redshirt year. Gives them a better chance to eventually contribute for their supposed dream scool, gives them another year to develop and make the NBA, gives them a shot at a Masters degree from Duke or do the grad transfer route.

I looked up Jordan Tucker. He's shooting 39% for 3 pters. and almost 80% foul shooting. Yes I think we could have really used him last year, and even this year.
I remember when his transfer came out. Him and Alex came in together for the same class, both same position, both expected to be multi-year guys. Alex beat him out early on for the spot. I remember Countdown2Craziness and the scrimmage games Alex getting a whole lot more playing time as a freshman. Jordan never seemed willing to fight back and beat out Alex. He announced his transfer intention very early.

It's a shame, I'm not saying I'd rather Alex transferred than Jordan, but we could really use efficient shooting, and Jordan seems a bit better right now for that.

I agree with that but also think that at least one maybe two of our underclassman would not be at Duke but understand Jordan's decision and hope he has a great career at a very good program. OFC
