What's a good bottle you've had recently? Has Pappy exceeded the price/quality threshold (I'd say yeah). Also, can any of you still lucky enough to live in Kentucky can get me Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye, I'll pay you $100 +shipping, or arrange NKY pick-up (I'm in Indianapolis); it's the best whiskey I've had in a long time...

Hopefully this can become a back-n-forth akin to the "Great beer thread".

4 Roses Barrel Strength, about $60, 10 different recipes, which are all pretty good.

I'd agree on the EWSB, great liquid for the price.

I like Henry McKenna 10yr bonded single barrel at $30 or Johnny Drum Private Stock 100 proof for under $30 as well.

I like Speyside Scotch. Sometimes a good Highland Scotch.

Macallan 12 has been my go to, for about $50/60 bottle.

Black Label- Blend for binge drinking.

I love Speysides. I was there last summer for a week. Sort of liked them prior to going, now I love a great Speyside or a highlands. I'm fond of The Balvenie 12 and Glenfiddich 15yr Solera. They aren't super complex but they are very drinkable. The prices are starting to go up though.

A few weeks back, a buddy of mine mistakenly ordered us two shots of Pappy Van Winkle 23 year. I'm not sure if he asked for it, or if the bartender grabbed the wrong bottle. $100 a glass. Couldn't pour it back in, so it was ours.. AND the bartender put it over ice. Once I saw what we ordered I had her quickly strain it back out for us. Still, the damage was done. Fairly watered down, even though it was good.

Owner even came out to see who we were, which is funny, because being late summer I was in shorts and a t-shirt, definitely not dressed for the part. He felt bad, so he bought us a full rocks glass of any regular bourbon.

So I'm proud to say I'm the only person on earth who got to try a $2,000 bottle of liquor, yet didn't REALLY try a $2,000 bottle of liquor. :weary:

I had the Four Roses Single Barrel a while back... I thought it was great with a little ice...

Just released in the Louisville and Bardstown Heaven Hill gift shops today:

Pricey, though...$130 at the gift shops, should be around $100 in stores when it hits. Not sure who it will appeal to...single malt drinkers they want to convert to American whiskey, or bourbon drinkers wanting to get a taste of malt. It's 65% Malt, 35% corn.

But for a reasonable price, there are a lot of options. Blanton's is a stalwart. EH Taylor Small Batch is a good buy as well.

From Heaven Hill, good ole' Elijah Craig is hard to beat for a 12 year bourbon under $30. EWSB is a great buy as well. I drink those pretty often.

And the Four Roses store picks are outstanding. They range from really good to pretty great, depending on the pick. The standard single barrel is good, too.

From Jim Beam, the Knob Creek single barrel is usually under the radar, but it's a really nice sip at around $30 as well.

Pappy is over-effing-rated. In fact, if you couldn't brag about drinking Pappy on social media, the price would drop considerably. And yes, I've had Pappy.

I'm pretty frustrated in general with the ability to find my favorite bourbons. With the true "elites" aside, it's a struggle to find some of the excellent choices mentioned above. I'd love to find some Elmer T, Rock Hill, or the Weller 12. Noticed at Liquor Barn this weekend that ther was no Weller Antique even available. I've been drinking these for years.

I do have access to nearly every recipe of Four Roses with ease.

Old Pultney 12 Year Old Scotch is extremely solid.

You just bragged about drinking Pappy over social media imo.

I see what you tried to do. But anonymous message boards aren't exactly bragging. And besides, saying that you've had a glass of Pappy is completely different than posting a picture of yourself on Facebook looking like a jackass with overpriced bourbon. As you may know, five years ago 23-year Pappy was much less expensive, so having a drink of it was more in the $40 range than what you pay today.

Just got an email from Buffalo Trace the other day..Very limited number of bottles will be available on Blantons, E.T. Lee, all of the Wellers, Buffalo Trace, Rock Hill Farms and several others. There hasn't been any Antique Weller available for quite some time. Damn shame the bourbon crunch has gotten so big. It is basically taking some very good bourbons off of the market for long periods of time...
