....famous person you’ve seen on a plane you were flying on?

Flying back from Portland today, we had to connect in Atlanta. As I was heading down the aisle to my seat for the flight back to Lexington, I noticed a tall young black guy. I instantly recognized him. It was Johnny Juzang.

Now, Johnny is not famous by any means yet, but it got me to thinking who the most famous person I’ve seen on a plane.

I guess it’s pretty close for me. I’ve seen Johnny Bench and Fred Couples.

Just curious who you’ve been on a flight with that’s considered famous.

  • Sat on the same row and side as Val Kilmer on a SW flight from Albuquerque to LAX. The woman in between us stared at him the entire time. Made me realize how short Tom Cruse is because Val is not that tall.
  • Usher on a flight from ATL to LAX. He was in the front and I was in the back. Only reason I know is that the flight attendant couldn’t stop talking about him.
  • I was in a flight from LAX to IND and was the last man upgraded to first. All of a sudden I heard somebody running down the jet bridge. It was Drew Brees. He came up to me and said I was in his seat. “I don’t think so pal”, I said, showing him my ticket. He went back up the jet bridge to get an agent. They promptly moved me back to coach. I then realized I left my iPad in the seat back pocket, so I had to go back up there and ask him for it. To hell with Drew Brees. :joy:
  • Sat on the opposite side of the aisle as Marcus Latrell a few months ago from DC down to Houston
  • Macy Gray was on my flight from LAX to Cleveland
  • Sat next to Jordin Sparks on a flight from Grand Rapids to Detroit. I had no idea who she was. She started talking about being on American Idol, and I asked her how she finished. “I won”, she responded. Lovely girl - and I really enjoyed talking to her. Her dad played in the NFL opposite Jason Sehorn. I tried to get her to admit he was overrated. She wouldn’t go there.
  • Sat next to Pat Day on a flight from Detroit to Louisville. He talked to me the entire way about his career. Awesome guy.
  • Dennis Rodman on a flight from Calgary to Minneapolis. Rodman tried to let his buddy sit up in first with us. Some dude came in and said it was his seat. Rodman’s boy got sent to coach.

Sounds like Brees is kind of a dick.

I’m a huge horse racing guy, so that would have been ready cool for me.

Not me, but a dude I work with was on an international Delta flight coming back from Europe. All of a sudden the power went out and the pilot came on the horn saying that all power had beee lost save what is controlling the plane, and they were going to have to get on the ground ASAP. The closest spot was Goose Bay, Canada.

My buddy was getting really nervous, and then all of a sudden the main star from the show “Lost” walked past him down the aisle. At that moment, my buddy was convinced he was dreaming. He said he kept on saying to himself, “wake up, wake up, wake up”. They made it safely to Goose Bay and I guess he realized that it was real life. Scary thing - a hydraulic (or some sort of leak) fried 2 of the 3 electrical systems. He had to spend a night on the plane in Goose Bay before Delta could get a new plane up there to pick them up.

That would be scary. The most memorable episode on a flight for me was last summer. We were flying back from Del Mar and had a connection in Salt Lake City.

Well, as we were landing, the wheels no sooner touched down then the engines reved back up and we started going straight up in the air. Scared the crap out of me.

The Captain came on a couple minutes later and said we had to go back up because a plane was sitting on the runway.

I’ve flown almost every week for the last 14 years. I’ve been diverted to other airports three times and aborted landings four times. I’ve never done the “touch the ground and take back off” thing. Eff that.

My Wife fly’s a ton also and she said it had only happened one other time.

She’s flown like 1.5 million miles in the last 25 years and it even startled her a bit.

Sounds like you need a different pilot, bub. I can put you in touch with one of mine if you'd like.

Was on a flight with Ocho Cinco from Charlotte to Louisville a month or two ago.

Went through the TSA line with Brooke Burke at LAX a few years ago, unfortunately she was not on my flight.

A few years ago I was flying out of KCI and Albert Pujols was behind me in line at Starbucks in the terminal. Dude was a giant, rocking a Jordan jumpsuit and a Louis carryon. I fanboy’d for a few minutes and then let him be. I believe he still lives in Missouri so I guess he went home for the off day. Mammoth of a man. Incredibly nice.

Several years ago sat next to Chris Jericho from the WWE going from Cincinnati to Tampa. Super nice guy, I didn’t know who he was but my son did. Undertaker sat across the aisle on the same flight. They had Wrestled Monday night raw in Cincinnati

Flying from Atlanta to Houston on Delta during the George Bush presidency and sitting directly in front of me was Jim Baker. He was on his way to give a speech in Houston and all dressed up in his thousands of dollars suit and starched white shirt. Looking good as a representative of a President is suppose to look. The pilots and flight attendants all gathered around for autographs, well wishes, etc. Sitting directly next to Mr. Baker was a business man who loved red wine and he was a talker. He kept talking and talking and talking and Mr. Baker was cordial and pleasant as he tried to concentrate on words written down on a yellow pad he was reading. The flight attendant came around again and again with drinks and he always managed to grab one.

Then it happened. With a freshly poured glass of red wine in this right hand the plane hit an air pocket and we seem to drop enough to shake things up and of course the glass of red wine went straight to Jim Baker drenching him in the face and doing a number on that fancy suit and white shirt. The flight attendants all came rushing over there apologizing and wiping him with wet towels The man to his left was about as embarrassed as a man can get and my imagination ran wild thinking the moment the plane landed the Secret Service was going to haul him away. Mr Baker handled it well with not even a curse word from his mouth.

When we landed a group of men surrounded him and escort him from the plane no doubt to take him to a dressing room and clean him up before his speech. I am a multi-million mile flyer with Delta and about a million more with several other airlines and saw many celebrities over the years. But this incident stands out in my mind.

Take a lot of flights and have more than my share of celebrity encounters.

Some at the top of mind are.....

Have sat next to Nazr Mohammed at least 3 times on flights. Always in exit rows and lord knows Nazr needs the extra legroom :) and on top of that a totally nice person

Had a short flight from Columbia SC to Charlotte with only two people on the plane....me and David Duke. Couldn't really place him until we landed and was only a 20 minute flight, but man that was an opportunity lost to just unload on that P.O.S.

Got bumped out of first class on two different occasions, once by Larry Ivy the other time by Mayor Fischer (current Louisville mayor)

Sat next to Barry Sanders on a flight, super super nice guy with a totally inebriated Gary Moeller in the seat behind us. (Think he lost his job just days afterward)

Watched Darius Miles go bat **** crazy because our small commuter plane didn't have first class.

I know theres some other good ones Im missing, but memory aint what it used to be.

Flying from Atlanta to Houston on Delta during the George Bush presidency and sitting directly in front of me was Jim Baker.

I was at dinner in Houston near the Galleria at a relatively (but not overly) fancy Italian restaurant late one night about 5 years ago. In the back was George HW Bush, Barbara, Jim Baker and his wife. Baker looked as slick as can be.

There were two other tables filled at that time. One with 8 women, the other was next to us containing three secret service guys. George Bush called over the women and started flirting with them. They were taking pictures and everything. We kind of made a motion like we were thinking about going over there and the SS guy said, "don't even think about it." :joy:

Baker said something to us as we left. Forgot what he said; seemed like a good dude though.

Recently sat next to Quickley on his return flight back to UK. Super nice guy and talked UK basketball the entire time. One of my most memorable flights. I could tell he felt the same.

Crap - forgot about one, I mean two. I flew with the Harrison twins from Houston to Louisville right after they signed with us. I went up to them before the flight and told them they made us all really happy in Kentucky. Aaron responded with "Thank you sir", which pissed me off because it made me feel old.
