To be fair, there does seem to be some skepticism and pushback regarding their accuracy. They got the numbers from the fed. Its like you quoting Joe and then someone saying "if James said it"... You didn't say it. You just quoted Joe. The fact you have to go there says you know...
Agreed. Nobody is going to agree 100% on anything. It's like the definition of inflation was always 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth but now it's different and people will argue that the definition didn't change. Or the definition of vaccine changing and people saying that it didn't change. I like that site because it seems to be right far more than it's wrong. Inflation is 8.6% but if you go by how they figured inflation in the 1970's, its closer to 17%. Experts would say that 8.6% is right but if you buy stuff at the grocery or tried to build a house or building lately, you know it's closer to that 17%.To be fair, there does seem to be some skepticism and pushback regarding their accuracy.
"A number of economists and finance experts have claimed that the Shadowstats CPI is conceptually wrong and that their usage leads to easily disproven and absurd conclusions.
University of Maryland Professor Katharine Abraham, who previously headed the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the agency responsible for publishing official unemployment and inflation data, says of Williams' claims about data manipulation that " the culture of the Bureau of Labor Statistics is so strong that it's not going to happen." Steve Landefeld, former director of the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the Commerce Department agency that prepares quarterly GDP reports, said in response to an article about Williams, "the bureau rigorously follows guidelines designed to ensure its work remains totally transparent and absolutely unbiased." In the same article, UC San Diego economist Valerie Ramey, a member of the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee, defended the methodological changes, claiming they were only made "after academic economists did decades of research and said they should be done."
Senior Fellow of the Niskanen Center Ed Dolan has found these alternatives to be "implausibly high" in spite of potential errors in the official data, especially when cross checked with data on nominal interest rates and physical output. Shadowstats measure of inflation has also been unfavorably compared with alternative private measures such as the Billions Prices Project which tracks millions of online retail prices from around the world in real time. In addition, despite claims of much higher inflation than official reports suggest, and even potential hyperinflation in the future, Shadowstats has not changed its $175 per year subscription fee since at least 2006, leading some to humor its own claims.
Responding to prior criticisms made by economist James Hamilton, John Williams explained in a private phone call that Shadowstats does not actually recalculate BLS data, rather, the Shadowstats CPI merely adds a constant to the officially reported numbers."
I am not understanding why people keep saying these definitions changed. They are the same definitions today that they were 30 years ago.Agreed. Nobody is going to agree 100% on anything. The federal debt went from $24 trillion to $31 trillion the last 2 years but I saw an economist with a phd say that Biden cut the deficit in half... Statistics can be twisted into anything.
My point exactly.I am not understanding why people keep saying these definitions changed. They are the same definitions today that they were 30 years ago.
Again, I certainly haven't seen an increase of 17% in most of the good I purchase. Maybe some things, but I honestly haven't even seen the 8.6% (pretty sure it's 8.2%) increase. But I shop for deals.
Federal debt was almost 28 trillion on January 20th, 2021. It's currently 31 trillion. I've not seen anyone say he cut it in half, but there was around a 350 billion dollar reduction at some point. Trump, in 4 years, managed to add 8.2 trillion. Obama barely added that in 8 years.
Yep. Michael Jordan said "everybody buys shoes". I still don't know what Mike believes but I bought a ton of his shoes and clothes in my life.I would prefer all athletes black, white, asian, mexican, puero rican, whatever the hell ever, would keep their mouth shut and perform. I am about as sick as I can be with every topic in the world becoming a political discussion. This board is getting as bad as facebook and twitter for becoming a political battleground at the expense of having a place to go to get away from it. Pro athletes used to understand that half of those that pay your salary are on one side and half on the other so in order to earn your money just play and move on. Not anymore. Ugh.

-Bill Russell refused to play in an exhibition in Lexington in 1961 after being refused restaurant service.
-Muhammad Ali went to jail and vacated his title for refusing to serve in the Army over the Vietnam War. He also threw his Gold Medal from 1960 Rome in the Ohio River after being refused service at a Louisville restaurant.
-The AFL moved its all-star game in 1965 when all the black players were denied service anywhere in New Orleans, and the commissioner moved the game to Houston.
-Billie Jean King boycotted tournaments that had a huge disparity between what the mens players could win versus the women players and arranged for a rival tour to compete with the USTA.
-Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their gloved Black Power fists at the 1968 Mexico Summer Olympics during the Star Spangled Banner.
-President Carter ordered the 1980 Summer Olympics boycotted in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
-Pat Tillman quit the NFL and walked away from millions to join the Army after 9/11.
Athletes have been protesting for a century and longer. Part of the deal with being American is that you have to be okay with the fact that other Americans see things differently than you and have the same right to "free speech" as you do.
Lol, all personal political decisions are personal choices. Tillman's decision to enlist was a personal political choice and the Dixie Chicks decision to protest was a personal political choice. I make a personal choice each month when I cash the checks George Soros sends me for organizing my local Antifa meeting and library drag shows. You put Pat Tillman making a personal choice
Muhammad Ali didn't "draft dodge." He presented himself and accepted punishment for refusal to fight and kill. He stood up for his principles and didn't run from the consequences.Muhammad Ali draft dodging.
Having a recession without 2 quarters of negative growth doesn't mean that 2 quarter in a row isn't proof of a recession. Historically speaking, every time we've had 2 quarters in a row the PTB declare a recession. You don't need it to have a recession, but it is definitely a symptom. Won't matter though because 2023 looks worse so they will officially call it next year. This simply isn't true. There is not universal agreement on what a recession is - never has been. The 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth is ONE definition of a recession. Most people agree that the United States had a recession in 2001, for instance - even though there were never two consecutive quarters of negative growth. There is no platonic ideal of a recession that has an objective self evident definition.
Protest, sacrifice for country, refusal to fight for the country that allowed you to be treated like a 2nd class citizen after you won a Gold Medal for it, all of it is a personal choice that is our God-given rights as Americans. Just because YOU don't like that expression, it's their choice. You put Pat Tillman making a personal choice to join the fight against terrorism in with Muhammad Ali draft dodging and Billy Jean King complaining about womens sports not getting the TV share that mens do (which is still 100% true and nobody is saying ****). What a joke. Bill Russell likely didn’t get denied service in Lexington by a lot of peoples accounts. Even back then Lexington was fairly progressive. He did it because of a stigma and the fact that the media liked to publish his arrogant assault on “racisim” even when it wasn’t true. You are proving my point with maybe the exception of a couple of people where the media misinterpreted the truth and made it sound political (Tillman example).
Standing against the clot shot grants him GOAT status for me. 99.999% of pro athletes are sheep. Why? Stood up against the nba and pressure with the vaccination BS
stands up against Bs woke medias questions
starts conversations that need to be started
he might be my favorite NBA Player
FACT-there have always been/will always be extremists in a free society. They should be dealt with appropriately.
^the problem lies in the fact that some extremists get a total pass *and* some very traditional American views have now been labeled extreme.
As society evolves traditional views become extreme. That's just how it goes. Saying something is a traditional view and therefore cannot be extreme is the worst excuse for holding said view.-there have always been/will always be extremists in a free society. They should be dealt with appropriately.

You have no fing clue who you are talking to so don't ever try to put words into my mouth. You don't know what I have sacrificed for others and for others rights. You and all the pussies like you want to preach that everyone has a voice but when it comes time to listen to the other side you do exactly as you did with this thread and assume more than listen. I am all for every American having a voice but what I am not for is using it to take away from those that actually pay your salary or fought for you to have a voice yet you denigrate the symbol of what they fought for. There is a place and time to have a voice but if it isn’t accepted at my work then why the hell should I expect that its acceptable in sports?Protest, sacrifice for country, refusal to fight for the country that allowed you to be treated like a 2nd class citizen after you won a Gold Medal for it, all of it is a personal choice that is our God-given rights as Americans. Just because YOU don't like that expression, it's their choice.
You're one of those people who want to protect your rights, your freedoms, and your way of life but don't want the same for other Americans. "Likely" didn't get denied service. Really? You learn that from Jim Crow 101?
Add Ye to that list. There was talk of him being at a BBM. Glad we dodged that.Kyrie is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.
Sorry for the double post but he annd the rest of these flat Earthers are idiots. They honest to God believe that while yes we have pictures of other round planets, the one of Earth is fake. And that Earth is the only flat planet in existence.Kyrie is not nearly as smart as he thinks he is.
I started the same thread a few days ago - by page 2 it turned into general political bickering and got moved to the paddockThe earth is flat, and his antisemitic attitudes are just some of his enlightened views. Jeez
Like that AD death and principal suspension at PLD? How weird is that?!I guess there was a thread on this already but watching the events unfold the last couple of days one thing i was reminded of, words matter and they can hurt.
What is going on with that? So the AD is alleged to have committed suicide, but the staff is saying the principal has built a very toxic culture in his 3 months there and has been bullying and threatening staff. Now the principal has been suspended and the staff is holding a vote of no confidence. Is the suicide related to the principal somehow?Like that AD death and principal suspension at PLD? How weird is that?!

I don’t even have discussion with them anymore. I’m afraid their lack of mental capacity might be infectious.
No. Even if you’re playing devils freaking advocate. No.Hold a plate in the air. Looks round doesn’t it? Doesn’t mean it is.
