And what does Beth know that Edgy and Mike Clark don't?

In Beth's "Super 25" football rankings published in today's Bright One, Beth has Loyola ranked at #10 (behind a 1-1 Simeon at #9) while Edgy has the Ramblers at #5 and Mike Long of the Trib bumped them up to #2.

After watching H-F/Stevenson on CSN100, one can make a strong argument that H-F has the best offense in the state. But, the best team? Not so sure. Expected to see much more from their defense. Stevenson had a few key drops that could have made that game even closer than it was. Has anyone been more impressive thus far than Loyola? Huge game this week against BR (maybe the state's #2 offense?). Is this the best Rambler offense in the Holecek era? We shall see.

My top 3 are HF, GW, LA. HF -going on road winning at defending 8A champs by 2 TDs. Not flawless but clear #1. I have Oak Park high as well going to LWE and winning gotta reward road win in my DSR.

Not enough 5-star recruits to D1, Power 5 conference teams.

Because that's what's important. Not this team, or this week's game. It's all about next year at the next level.

I went H-F, Loyola, GBW, NC and MC. It's early, but I need to see more from MC. The Blue will give them ample opportunity to shine.

BTW....caught a little of the Provi / Oswego game on the Cube. I believe Provi gave up 6 six sacks (after JC got 9 against them). The Oswego front 7 dominated the Celtics, just as JC did. Tough to envision a scenario where Provi beats MC, Loyola or BR. I'm not sure they beat Rita. They've got one of the best RB's in the state and a nice group of receivers, but you have to block someone. The new QB hasn't had much of a chance.

Do you see me state anything subjective in that post? No. Did I state that Beth's rankings are absurd like DOS did? No. All I did was to report Beth Long's Loyola ranking and ask what she knows that Edgy and Mike Clark don't since there is such a discrepancy between their rankings and hers.

If you think this is bitching on my part, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Wanna talk about discrepancy the trib didn't even have Naz ranked preseason. I have LA in my top 5 for the DSR

I don't remember the order of my top 5 i think it was HF, GW, MC, LA, NC. So in your mind only matters who you played. So Baylor doesn't deserve to be #4 because they beat SMU or MSU shouldn't be top 10 because they beat western michigan.

No, who you played is not what only matters. But it has to matter SOME.

Beth Long ranked Naz at #3 last week. She also had Montini at #6 after their week 1 win against Maine South. Naz beat Leo last weekend in LaGrange Park while Montini traveled to ESL and beat the Flyers. In my mind, the Montini win is substantially more impressive than the Naz win -- impressive enough to result in Montini leapfrogging over Naz in the rankings. Instead, she kept both teams ranked the same this week.

Assume for a moment that Montini and Naz win out. Do you see any scenario by which Montini leaps ahead of Naz and what, other than who they played, would that scenario be?

this will all be settled in a few hours when the initial DSR is released...a day late because of the holiday of course.

Mich St is top 10 winning on road at an 8-5 Western Michigan. Mich St plays Oregon Sat though will settle that . Dont you think MSU should vault some teams if they beat Duck? College polls shouldn't even come out until after 4 weeks anyway. Minimum 2 games like DSR.

You beat who's on your schedule and drop? So when Montini plays Leo and St. Joes back to back weeks they should drop each week? Or when Loyola plays Iggy and Depaul College Prep? Point is every team has a couple easy games on their schedule. Now if Nazareth has a 1 score game the next 3 weeks then maybe they should drop. But when the starters outscore the opponents 76-0 don't think so.

If you beat a much smaller and weaker team that you chose to put on your schedule, do you really think you should remain the same or advance in the rankings? What about the other teams around you? If the team just beneath yours goes on a five hour road trip and convincingly beats a larger top tier program in a non-con game that they chose to play while yours stays at home and beats a substantially weaker team that it chose to play and, more importantly, substantially weaker than that top tier program then, yeah, your team should drop and the other team should take your place at a minimum.

As for Loyola playing Iggy and DePaul Prep, and Montini playing Leo and St. Joe, those are crossover games mandated by the league. Who mandated that Naz play Leo?

I dropped MC a few slots after being 2-0. its all about performance, who you played and beat. I rewarded Oak park for going on road and beating LWE. I have OP ahead of MC. Very fluid rankings change weekly. MC could go 9-0, Marist 7-2 I don't know.

Offensively they are a hugely different team with Sorenson. Defensively they can't stop you Quags. They will fatten up on a bad NSC - Lake Forest is ok Libby could beat them and that's about it

I saw Barrington last week. They are much better than Stevenson. But everyone is still caught up in what team's did last year when it comes to rankings. And Beth Long just looks at how many D-1 kids are on a team. She hasn't quite figured out that football is truly a TEAM sport.

It was already discussed previously on why Leo had to be put on the schedule. Scheduling is not an easy thing at the last minute. Ask all the teams with Forfeit wins.

So because scheduling is not an easy thing, are you suggesting that should be a mitigating factor in the rankings?

forget about Montini, how exactly is JCA rated lower than Naz? they beat better teams than naz beat. I don't get it, but will not stay up late worrying about it, since we all will find out one way or the other over the next two months.
