Now that the NCAA crap is finally behind the program and there is a permanent AD and president, who do you believe is the best/big name/etc. coach that UofL could realistically get?

I'm thinking a guy like Scott Drew is definitely off the table. I can't imagine any coach that has won a championship at their current school would leave to come here.

So a Nate Oates or Musselman? Or do you think the Cards have to go after an experienced but not a big name coach?

Josh Heird is working on it. Partially joking. Heird and Wright have a connection from Heird’s time at Villanova. I don’t think it’s as wild and crazy as some think. May take some convincing, time and money but I think this is a possibility.

what about Greg McDermott at Creighton? He’s done an awesome job there. Problem is that he’s 58 years old. Makes $1.5M/year. Just signed a top 10 recruiting class.

McDermott is a solid coach. I think it would be hard to pull him from Creighton and the Midwest general area (Iowa, Nebraska) though.

Yeah, I actually have been to both. I’m not a big fan of those areas but some people are and I think he is. I live in a suburb of KC on the Kansas side. Took awhile to grow on me but I love it out here. Have to deal with obnoxious KU fans but they’re not as bad as UK fans. Pretty close though.

Wright is a great coach but retired mostly because of not wanting to deal with NIL and tired of the recruiting grind. You have to wonder if he has lost his edge though I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Yeah this is the type of coach I think UofL might have to go after if Musselman and Oates type guys turn the Cards down. An experienced coach that has a proven system working but maybe not a "big name" to most fans.

Yeah, this is true. He also wanted to spend more time with his family. Have to respect that. In the past, he has mentioned he would only come back to coach at Villanova. More recently, he has talked about the NBA and wanting a new challenge. I will try to find a link where I heard this.

Again, I think it would take some convincing but I think he will be back on the sideline somewhere within the next couple of years. You could hear it during the broadcast. Raff had to tell him to stop coaching on several occasions. It’s in his blood.

Creighton is in a mid-sized city and is kind of the main show in town. Their attendance is one of tops in country.
100%. Solid coach. He has a ton of support from their fanbase and administration. Had a little goof up a few years ago but he bounced right back.
