I found this snippet from Scott Dochterman in this week’s Legends & Listeners podcast to be interesting. He was talking about McCollum as Iowa’s coach, when he said this:

Who is the player Doc is referring to? Tony Perkins, maybe? I suppose he may not be referencing Fran with this comment, but that was the implication I got.“You've got a coach that doesn't complain about the portal. And doesn't complain about, you know, NIL and doesn't embellish. It doesn't sit in front of a group of people at the PCA meeting and say, it's going to cost $500,000 to retain a player.
When really, in fact, it would have been two. They had the money for it and he chose not to retain them. But he told everybody they didn't have the money for it because that's the kind of person he is.”
