Pharrell has that crossover appeal though.

The best - bar none - moment in the defiant ones (well hit gdfthr as i was watching when i originally posted) was at the source awards (which i remember watching) when NAS said, the crips and bloods were there looking to prove something, kids from every borough were there with guns, and (while showing a picture of a ninja sitting quietly as there was rukus all around) I'm certain the wu-tang clan had somethin! I love that the wu was singled out and that they had "something."

Big fan of Timbaland as well.

On the rock side I'll take Brian Eno
Music is starting to mesh these days anyways. A lady friend of mine sends me these "country" songs (she's from Altona and they don't even have football at ROWVA I don't think) and I'm like "Are these produced by Dr. Dre? Where's the guitar?"

I look at production in three ways:
  1. Atmospheric - Eno kills it for atmosphere but also love Daniel Lanois or even David Fridmann (Spoon, Flaming Lips)
  2. Beats - Dre, Timbaland and Pharrell all work
  3. Pop - I do everything I can to shy away as this includes most "country" or Taylor Swift kinda stuff
