Barnhart has largely ignored the sport until recently. Even with the success Brooks had at UK, he never had the opportunities that Stoops has been awarded since arriving here. Most of that is largely due to the TV contract that the SEC cut with ESPN. Before the SEC network, the middle of the pack SEC teams didn't receive a whole lot more in television revenue than the bottom feeders. With every SEC game virtually being guaranteed to being broadcast on a network channel, you want to get to be middle of the pack because the revenue is much greater for those teams. That's why you have the AD hate. That, and that contract that has somewhat hamstringed UK.

I want Stoops to succeed. I want these hires to work out. But you can't wish it to happen. Realistically, you can't look at the program and feel good about next year. Not until some results are seen on the field.

So, realistically, we must feel bad about football at UK until we are proven wrong?

I agree that is a common theme here, but I reject it. That approach means that we must think the worst about every little piece of news and expect anything that looks like good news to be seen as fools gold.

Why would anyone want to be that kind of fan?

To a sense yes. At least for me. I'm not saying feel bad but just have tempered expectations. I've heard the same song and dance for 3 years now. From the arrival to Stoops and all the excitement he pumped into the program to all the talk about great Shannon Dawson was going to be. I remember stuff on here about how people really liked him, how he was with the media. And then it all exploded. I like Gran's system. I like what he is bringing to the table. But, I want to see some results before I really get sucked back in again.

Season ticket holder for several years now and I get the whole negativity thing around the program and I know people want that flushed out (I do too) but it's going to take results to do that. I go to the games, tailgate, have a great time at the game and I'm not miserable at the games for the most part. I've never understood the ones who go to these games and just sit in misery for 3 hours. I really don't.

I would not care what happened day to day or want to talk UK football if I did not have hope or think the program was getting better. Sure, there are set backs, but why would I want to spend any part of the off season discussion football if I thought next season was just going to suck?

I think we all have a little hope even the extreme fans that are on the negative side. If not, you're right, we wouldn't be here.

After seeing what were paying Gran and Hinshaw, and upgrading the other Asst. Coaches, I do not understand how anyone can say that Mitch doesn't care about football. He has upgraded the facilities, and hired coaches that other top programs have tried to poach from UofK.
I still think it takes 5 years for a new coach to get the players he wants. He has to red shirt some, and some will not work out, regardless of stars. We must have enough subs that when we have an injury, it won't defeat us, and players with enough in the tank to not allow us to be whipped in the 4th quarter.

OLD STOLL FIELD GUY!

but aren't YOU watching people try and make a case against Mitch???

I try to avoid it.

It would be nice if my syntactic and semantic mistakes would put an end to that discussion. I would fall on many more swords if we could get past that argument.
