Why does our recruiting $uck so much?

You know, I visit this site every darn day wondering the exact same thing. Props to you for bringing it up when nobody else would.
We don't know that it sucks and we don't know if it is good.
There was a ton of hype about the supposed better system, the increased size of the recruiting budget and private planes so fans naturally expected more positive signs then have been visible at this time.
Signing day is not so far in the future and we'll have an opportunity to see what we have relative to coaches who can recruit at this level.
^^^^This^^^^ It is perfectly legitimate to ask questions about the state of our recruiting. We may end with a solid class. I hope we do, obviously. But we could also end poorly. Who knows? But there was a lot of hype on this board about how much better organized and motivated our recruiting is now. There was hype about all of these quality recruits we "are in on" or are "strong Nebraska leans". And as I said, we may get a lot of those guys. But given the state of Husker football since 2001, it is totally reasonable that some of us are saying "where's the beef?"
I do not know of a single serious, long time poster on here saying our recruiting "sucks". I know you are just being sarcastic and I appreciate the humor. But until Riley actually signs a solid class, I think we are justified in being a little concerned. There is certainly no need for panic or hysteria. But given Riley's 5-7 start, I think it is legit to withhold hype in his favor until he delivers.
At the same time I think it's legit to withhold judgment until he finishes.
Maybe judgment isn't the right word, but understand that if there are gonna be people out there saying what if we swing and miss on all our guys, then you better expect others to say the same thing in a positive direction. It goes both ways, as we have seen in MANY recent threads started here.
maybe it's me but it seems like we hit better on the offensive side of recruiting and have been missing on the defensive side of the ball. Sounds like we are lossing Alexander and have missed on several lbs lately. Positive part is we are in Lamar Jackson's top 4 and he's one of the biggest needs.
I agree...wait until signing day to judge. However, it is worth noting that there is a tremendous amount of slack being given to our current coach given the factual results our current season and recruiting.

When in doubt on recruiting - assume the worst AND blame negative posters and chicken littles for scaring away recruits. Then also give your take on how Bo sat on his hands and did not care about recruiting. AND also tell everyone how Riley never proved at OSU he could recruit worth a darn. Does that cover it??
You're right, it is worth noting that. Can we have a thread reserved for this notation so that we don't have to read it in so many unrelated threads as well?
It is incredible the number of threads, related to recruiting or not, where people feel compelled to remind us of this.
I have no problem with positive posts. In fact I like them. They give me hope. I just don't like false sunshine pumping and hype, followed by criticism of anyone who dares raise some mild concerns. I don't see anyone just ripping into Riley and saying "all is lost". Just people raising concerns which is a legit thing to do within reason. It is a football chat board after all.
I don't know. Maybe some took it personal being called idiots and dumbasses a few too many times.
What makes all of this so hard to distinquish is that there are very few on this free board who have inside information I am guessing, which means we really don't know what is legitimate and what is sunshine pumping. I know I have zero inside information (which would qualify me as a sunshine pumper for sure Cool), but my positivity comes from what others have posted about the guys we are still in on. I do see hints from writers as well that seem to suggest we will finish strong, but until February, we can't be comfortable, I guess.
Probably the posters that I struggle with the most are the ones who have already made the judgment that Riley was a mistake and will continue to bring us down, and this recruiting cycle is proof of that. The guy deserves a chance to turn this ship around. I am pretty sure you agree with that, Pennsy, but I know not everybody does.
That could be with certain posters, but I tend to believe it would have happened no matter what. There are posters here who are not sure about the hire (or are sure that it was a terrible hire) who would be banging this drum no matter what, imo.
Having said that, I have no doubt that just as I get frustrated by the repeated doom and gloom posts regarding recruiting, others are just as frustrated to see the we'll be fine posts. The reality is somewhere in the middle... wait and see. February will be here soon enough.
the recruits committed look good. the recruits uncommitted look good. class will probably finish between 20-30 and closer to #20. lots of teams in that range are competing for their league titles consistently
I'm willing to wait to see how this recruiting cycle plays out. And "no", I'm not hoping for failure, I just try to stay as objective as I can.
I guess I see our situation as of right now a little bit differently than you in regards to negativity. Thinking back over the last 12 months, if a concern was raised, you didn't get an answer, you got called names and your intelligence was questioned. This didn't happen every single time, but it happened way too much. The theme was we have a great coaching staff (not all but mostly) and they're gonna bang it out recruiting, and in some cases "you are an idiot if you cant see that" was thrown in. I don't see that as being a positive way to interact with people. Now we're 5-7 and 40ish in recruiting. It's not looking all that fine and great. The negativity is just coming full circle.
Well said... Without a doubt things were said before the season began that didn't play out the way many thought it would. Those who were on the receiving end of the harsher posts are responding in kind. I see what you are saying. This hire has enough people on both sides of the fence that it has made this board very interesting the last year, especially as this season played out.
it doesn't suck .Neb still gets good players but it has to get the reputation of coaching players up, making them better , and I don't think neb has that going for them at the moment. players like to see that they have a chance to become even better than they are now after 4-5 years in a program
