I mean, why don't they go back and count how blocks Bill Russell had so he can be the all-time blocks leader?
Based on what criteria? It’s a slippery slope. Once the NBA define what it takes to be MVP it opens them up to criticism for previous announced MVP’s and future MVP’sThere's no footage of many of the regular-season games he played in, so his regular-season blocks can't be accurately retroactively tallied.
We've got more than enough footage and stats to accurately determine Finals MVPs for 1949-1968, though.

Wilt Chamberlain would be the all time blocks leader with 5.2K blocks.There's no footage of many of the regular-season games he played in, so his regular-season blocks can't be accurately retroactively tallied.
