Im perplexed how an Elite11 QB does not have a 4 star rating?? H.S. stats are dependent on many variables out of the players control. Such as OL & WR quality+exp & Scheme. From what I understand Garrett Greene HS deploys a run heavy scheme and has for a few years..
Id rather be an underdog & pursue gems anyway, & not that Stars = potential, guess I just want to see players get the respect they deserve, and this young man is definitely 4 star talent..
GG has been instrumental part in helping 2020 recruiting, he's very active, you can tell this young man has that fire and wants to do all he can to ensure success.. I know its gonna be a couple yrs before we see him get the job, but the future looks bright for sure. Seeing a QB that has both mobility & accuracy will be a delight. To not be limited on scheme or how HCNB chooses to attack opposing defs, should help improve OFF results. As long as we focus on OL recruiting, because it all starts up front, and be a bit more versatile in the blocking schemes deployed.
Im hopeful Brown focuses on getting Speed... Speed is a great edge, its difficult to scheme against. Okoli, Reese, Faverus, & Lakevias Daniel are all shifty. TBH, even our 2021 TE is fast, if you watch Victor's training vids, this guy could be one of the top TE's in the 2021 class, and thats not an exaggeration. Hopefully we can get a wr or APB that helps replace Tevin Bush's skillset.
Out of the remaining positions for 2020, 1 more WR(shifty Speedster hopefully), 2 more quality OL, and Jeffrey M'ba & Kevin Kelonji are at the very top of my wishlist. If the #TWINSOFDESTRUCTION both choose WVU, this would be the best DL class in recent memory.
With Two high-end JUCO DB's, with multiple yrs to play, holes left by Washington/etc and considering we get D Miller back, our Def next year should take another step forward, given how much youth was on the field this yr.
QB competition will make them both better, if George Campbell gets his medRS, and if Gamble can step into Colton's spot, we'll def need our OL lads to improve. Schematically, I think we should deploy more zone stretch schemes, which helps youthful lineman & RB's create/find seams. Tariq S would be a great add to help next years needs, but we still need 1 more HS OL to fill out the class. A dude that grows with Mayo, Frazier, & Greene.. Im not sure if HCNB intentionally kept our OFF basic this year, just to install the foundation and get a feel/tape on how opposing DC's attack his fundamentals/foundation. A tactician... But, I think we will see a bit more complexity & creativity next year.
OL was an issue this yr, I feel this improved somewhat near years end, which helped Doege, but Kendall got a raw version, to much was dependent on his arm and when Def can easily stop the run, its much more difficult. So I think HCNB will carefully analyze performances, and challenge them both differently in the spring.. Which will only make us better, as long as the QB battle is settled in time for the QB1 to develop solid timing&Chemistry with our WRs.
Overall I know this year sucked, but sometimes you gotta feel a little pain to grow. I couldnt be more pleased with our Def staff, they all deserve a healthy raise, and hopefully yr#2 our OFF can take a step forward, or two.. Looking back at how 2018 ended, losing to OSU & OU, in the manner we did, which blew goat balls at the time, long term I think we are much better for how it all played out, cause one thing is glaringly obvious.... HCNB will & can take us to where we want to be, we just gotta be patient. No matter how great a coach may be, historically it takes 4-5 yrs to make significant strides. If you look at RichRods record, Dabo's record, you start seeing some steady improvement in yr 2-3-4, and by yr 5 you are playing in a BCS game..
Realistically if Brown gets this built up right, we would eventually have an average recruiting class in the top 22-30 every year, and improve from an average 7-5 yr to 8-5 on a down year, to 10-13 wins on an up year and compete for the Big12 1 out of 3 yrs, instead of 1 out of 8.. If you look at all the blueblood schools, having a 3 yr recruiting average lower then 22 is probably not possible, but I do think we can be in the 22-28 range.. Which would technically give us enough talent to compete at a higher level more frequently. HCNB staff has identified underrated talent so far, given how many recruits have had their ratings improve since commitment, so sometimes a class ranked 30 is better then a class ranked 20... Its all about how those players fit, the culture, fundamentals, & application.
Patience is a virtue, and we'll be rewarded for TrustingTheClimb! Definitely optimistic, I think we finally have a solid staff, supporting staff, & facility upgrades to push upward, we as fans have to do our part! Donate to the MAC, go to the games, & continue to maintain a strong social media presence, most of all refrain from allowing our emotions to get the better of us after a tough loss.
