Why in the world does ESPN push Stephen A Smith?

I just don't get always screaming and acting like he's pissed. And he talks down to people who call in on his show big time. I don't know why anyone would call. Kind of the same for Max Kellerman. I'd almost rather listen to Stephen A

His football takes are extremely funny since he doesn't do his homework on the NFL. Not that this ever stopped him from opening his mouth.

I agree . When he is on espn it is a race for me to turn the channel before he opens his obnoxious mouth .

Hes their most polarizing “analyst.” Its really sad hes become the face of daytime ESPN. Basically encompasses what ESPN is nowadays. Just a load of crap.

The very idea of “daytime espn” is just weird, and kind of gives you some insight as to what market they’re targeting. I mean who watches daytime tv? “Househusbands”? Aka dudes who don’t have a damn job. Which in reality is probably mostly college students.

What happened to Max Kellerman? Is he off First Take now?
Yes. And, Stephen A is the one who made it happen. He has admitted it. It amazes me that he’s not only still on the air but is the freaking FACE of ESPN & has enough clout to get ppl fired. He’s overtly racist & had to answer for some of his comments this summer. He had a really bad week at one point & had to make 2 or 3 public apologies to entire countries. For saying things that would’ve gotten most ppl canceled on the spot. Max knows his boxing & is a damn good analyst in that regard, IMO. And, I used to like him on ATH, too, & respected his opinion on certain things. But, over the last few years he has become a cuck, for lack of a better term, & has bent over backwards seeking Stephen A’s approval. Which makes the circumstances of this even funnier.

Because he does exactly what they’ve paid him to do for the last decade.

people don’t want insight and analysis. They want hot takes and shouting. That’s the formula. Get a few of those guys, find a couple bland Mike Greenbergs to take you to commercial, and you’re set.

While I don't watch him, please allow me to let you in on a little secret - there are plenty of men (and women for that matter) that have jobs not with the hours of 9:00-5:00. It's called shift work. Also some people work jobs such as fire fighters who are on call for 24 hours at a time that may watch in the firehouse. Maybe E.R. doctors who are waiting for someone's loved one to be seen with a life threatening emergency.

Might want to re-think your stance on this subject.....................maybe not though. I guess you could be a member of some Bull-Sh*t stereotypical group. There are plenty of people who might be watching that do have a damn job. Some of those jobs are possibly way more important than yours.

Exactly. Self-employed and work at home 10-12 hrs a day. ESPN is usually on in the background. It’s not great but it’s not cable news.

Hmm... I admit I never really thought of it that way. Certainly wasn’t indenting the post to demean those who may have the luxury of watching tv while at work (which I still maintain is relatively few people, regardless of how important or unimportant their job may be)

Like I said though, I’m willing to bet that college students make up a large portion of the daytime viewing of ESPN. Maybe not a majority, but a significant portion. I certainly watched these kinds of shows a lot when I was in school. Nothing wrong with that. But if the OP is looking for answers, one answer is because Stephen A is appealing to viewers of that very large age group, for whatever reason.

Thats a big part of the problem too. Sports fans just having it on in the background. And so much of the time it’s pure drivel. Pretty sad times we’re living in when that seems like the best thing on

totally different than nighttime espn where they actually have some content most of the time in the form of real sports. daytime is just the same subjects discussed in different forms 8x throughout the day. Headlined by a loud mouth in smith. When i was a kid i dont remember espn daytime tv being insufferable though

When ESPN started, my friend and I used to watch it all the time. Back when Sportscenter would go all night long because they had nothing else to show. Would also watch all the weird things they would cover like Australian rules football and even polo I think. Now I wouldn't watch ESPN unless you pried my eyes open and I had on a strait jacket like Alex in Clockwork Orange. Only when UK is playing.

A lot of people work 2nd and 3rd shift and are thus not working during all or part of the daytime. A large # of the clients for the clinic I work at are 24-hour operations, and the vast majority of the largest employers in my city are also 24-hour operations. My dad for many years would work 3rd shift at the post office so he could be home during the day to look after my brother and I before we were school aged while my mother would work during the day so one of my parents could always be home instead of having to get a babysitter or put us in daycare.
