Why in the world does ESPN push Stephen A Smith?

He’s the equivalent of a ‘shock jock’. Basically a rabid chihuahua. I do think he provides excellent evidence of the depth to which ESPN has sunk. It’s no longer a sports station. Instead it has become the 24x7 equivalent of the Today Show for the PlayStation trained self proclaimed ‘expert’ sports fan. I don’t watch it anymore except on the very rare occasion that they have a game on that is of some merit. I don’t know why anyone with any actual sports knowledge would bother with them.

Yes. And, Stephen A is the one who made it happen. He has admitted it. It amazes me that he’s not only still on the air but is the freaking FACE of ESPN & has enough clout to get ppl fired. He’s overtly racist & had to answer for some of his comments this summer. He had a really bad week at one point & had to make 2 or 3 public apologies to entire countries. For saying things that would’ve gotten most ppl canceled on the spot. Max knows his boxing & is a damn good analyst in that regard, IMO. And, I used to like him on ATH, too, & respected his opinion on certain things. But, over the last few years he has become a cuck, for lack of a better term, & has bent over backwards seeking Stephen A’s approval. Which makes the circumstances of this even funnier.

white people complaining about racism is hysterical. Stephen A is a clown, but a very connected clown, and not a racist.

It's become FoxNews for sports.

what's really sad is when he first got exposure on espn when he was a columnist for the philadelphia-enquirer he was very good. he was a great basketball columnist who was plugged in to east coast sports--particularly basketball. he was brought on as on-site reporter for espn and slowly he started to turn to entertainment only.

there was a time when first take was called cold pizza. part of that show was the "first and 10" spot with skip bayless and woody paige. it was funny and they didn't take themselves seriously. that slowly got chipped away and then it was segmented off to it's own 2 hour show. at first they legitimately debated. then they just screamed at each other while using extreme hyperbole and absolute nonsense and became completely unwatchable. and they talk only nfl for about 45 weeks out of the year. been that way for several years now.

PTI, around the horn, etc. are the same way.

If you find him hard to listen to just do like I do, just don't listen to his sorry ***.
Oh, I turn him off when he gets intolerable ...which is often. I just don't find him intolerable 100% of the time. Some of his takes are ok when he isn't screaming to hear himself scream for dramatic effect. He's more of a personality anymore over providing quality analysis or opinions.

I’ve said this before, he brings in the masses or the lowest common denominators of sports fans. They don’t know smart takes/journalism and think it’s funny to see people yell at each other, Kardashians for stupid guys if you will.

He’s also the Nickelback of sports personalities. No one admits to watching or liking him yet he sells out shows/gets viewership.

So basically, the people that watch him don’t admit because they know it’s **** tv but they quietly get off on watching it but don’t want anyone to know.

What is so funny about it? Do you think it’s ok to be racist toward white ppl? How about Asians & Nigerians? He had to apologize to both cultures over the summer for his racist comments about Ohtani & the Nigerian national basketball team. And, those incidents were just a cpl weeks after crying “white privilege” for the 10,000th time. It’s funny that for someone who isn’t racist he sure does have to explain himself & apologize for offensive comments quite a bit. And, it’s not just white ppl he’s apologizing to, either. Racist is racist. Color doesn’t matter & it shouldn’t be taken any less seriously, regardless of which race feels offended. But, not everybody feels the need to virtue signal & pander for acceptance, either. Which, is the real joke in this situation.

I can't believe how awful most of the studio show guys across all of sport are. Ever watch that Marcelus Wiley show? Good lord, unwatchable. The NFL channel has some hood rat named Steve that is the worst human being not named Dean Smith to ever be hired as an analyst, but so is some big stiff white guy that is about as interesting as a roofing nail.

I love Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. I know a lot of people are annoyed but those two come in more prepared and counter each other's arguments better than any other show, you just have to understand that on a lot of topic like Dallas, LeBron James, and Tom Brady they are running gags where they will poke at each other and they're not being serious as their takes will be absurd like no matter how well Dallas plays Shannon will rate their performance as a 2 or 3 out of 10 enraging Skip.

Keyshawn and JWill are awful beyond words and SAS is too brash and ridiculous in the same way I find Colin Cowherd. The PTI guys are gold. I could even stand a little of Jim Rome before, but the quality of the studio analysts out there right now is certainly at an all time low.

agree with everything you said, but how can you watch any of these shows? every one of them fake...scripted as wrestling. who really cares about any of their opinions. entertainment for simpletons...

I liked Kellerman, idk. SAS looks like a total douchebag for this move, while Kellerman was seemingly mature about the whole matter.

Not many guys out there can host a show all on their own, certainly not SAS. I give props to guys like Cowherd and Rome who can have multiple hour long shows where they basically just talk to the camera.

My feeling is Daytime ESPN is pretty much what talk radio was back (and I guess still is, do people still listen to radio?).

So the "Shock Jock" comment earlier was right on point. Doesn't matter if it Stephen A, Skip B, etc, the squeakiest wheel gets the grease.
