Why is Louisville so successful at recruiting in Florida?

Well the question was asked.

Ohio is fertile ground. If you're OSU, MSU, UM, and PSU getting the pick of the litter. Not if your UK fighting Cinci, IU, and the rest of the big 10 for left overs.

I'm more than pleased with Kash and Landon, but those two are the exception and not rule.

Bobby P probably pursued Landon, Kash, Elam, and Harris, but he didn't lose any sleep over them, not when he can go down to the southern territories and grab three star athletes and speedsters who would be 4 maybe even 5 star players and all state in Kentucky.

This is just wrong. UK has taken recruits from MSU and PSU. If their pursuit of Ohio kids is worth it, so is our pursuing them.

Whether BP lost sleep over his recruiting losses, I don't care. Not sure why I should. But Simpson, Cash, Young, Elam, and other Kentucky kids are worth the recruitment. The implication that it takes more work for them than kids in other states is not true.

I say it all the time. I'll take a 3 star from Florida, Texas, or UGA over a 4 star from ohio, kentucky, and most other places. Sneaky P figured that out a long time ago.

I thought star ratings were national and based on the same talent criteria?
If a 3 star in FL is as good as a 4 star from OH...wouldn't one of them be in the wrong star category?

Yes and No. Kids in Florida play much tougher high school competition than Ohio. Look at Matt Elam...playing against Kentucky high school talent he looks great but he was drastically overrated because of it. The only kids in this state that I care about Petrino recruiting are the Louisville area kids as they've had a history of producing at the next level. Plus...there are so, so many football players and they all can't be accurately graded. I'm with the OP...give me a 3 star kid from Florida, Georgia, Bama or Mississippi over a 4 star from Ohio any day. Looked at the rankings for high school football....8 teams in the top 25 from Florida, Georgia and Bama. Only 1 team from Ohio in the top 25. High School football simply isn't as good in the North. The best talent comes from the South, Texas, and California.

Kind of like pretty girls. Plenty of them in Kentucky, but would they stick out in Laguna beach California or South Beach in Miami. If a girl ever catches your eye in those areas you know she's special because those parts of the world are busting at the seams with eye candy.

I apply the same logic to football.

The populations are greater in Texas and Florida. That means more kids competing, not only more kids, but more talented kids as well.

The DT for Texas Permian or Miami Northwestern has been competing against more talent from youth league through high school than the DT who is looking all world for Male or John Hardin. It's easier to dominate in parts of kentucky high school football than it is to make a team in texas and florida.
