Why It’s Hard to Attract a Shooting Guard Here

Again, we are pretty thin in the backcourt, specifically 1/2. With the injuries we had last year, I would bet and hope Pope isn't done there.
If he is, I’m good with it. His responsibility is to create the best roster he can, and that’s why he will undoubtedly test the waters with some of the available options to see if he can improve the position. Either way, I think we have a lot of talent at the position. I won’t be upset if you add more talent though.

Oweh is a returning All-SEC player, Jasper Johnson is highly rated, Chandler should make a big jump and Kam Williams is also getting lots of time at SF. Its not that recruits are afraid to compete but your asking a guy to come here and play 20-15 mins give or take with other schools promising they can be the guy. We definitely could use a proven shooter in the Brea role but the initial plan for him last year was 20-15min coming off the bench and its hard to convince guys to do that. I think we get another shooter but it will be a guy satisfied with that role not someone who trying to be a main option somewhere. I could definitely see it being another euro guy without expectations on playing time or shots.

We can play Love, Perry, JJ, Oweh, and Chandler in the backcourt. Then you have Kam Williams who could play SG. Idk if I call that pretty thin. It would just be nice to have another proven shooter because you never with a freshman like JJ. If we knew JJ was going to shoot lights out from 3 and be a stud nobody would be worried about getting another shooter.

Chandler averaged 2 pts a game and Johnson is an unproven soon to be college freshman who isn't all that highly ranked. I highly doubt many are scared, lulz.
You signed in this month just to troll Chandlers last 11 games including 2,tournaments showed how good a player he can be

We have 12 roster spots filled. There is only 1 basketball. Some of the top guys can see this as well as we can. IF we add a 13th guy I would prefer a defensive stopper at guard. Defense was our Achilles Heel last season.

Who trolled him? In your world, do you consider honest takes trolling just because you don't want to accept them?

How many points did he average on the year? How many times did he score in double figures? How many times did he make multiple 3s in a game? No one is trolling him by pointing out he likely isn't someone other guys are afraid to come and compete against at this point.

If that offends you, perhaps you need thicker skin.
My skin is thick enough, but when you cherry pick a very good player on our team to make it look like he’s not worth a crap yeah I’m gonna say something about it especially somebody has an established self as a poster on here yet

Chandler gave us pretty solid minutes toward the end of the season. He's ahead of schedule, considering that he just came off a two year mission before last season. You have to keep guys like him in the program for continuity. I can see him being a glue guy and making substantial progress this fall.

The portal guys who imply that they are worrying about Jasper and Chandler taking their pt don't have the mindset to make it at UK. There is a lot of pressure playing here, because the entire SEC and non-conference schedule is gunning for you. There is no such thing as coasting and getting your numbers before the draft.

Who cherry picked? What were his scoring numbers for last year? If you feel the need to lash out at someone on a message board because you didn't like a fact they provided, your skin isn't as thick as you might think.

Where did you come up with the idea that I was claiming he wasn't worth a crap just because I said it's unlikely that we are struggling to land a stud sg in the portal due to them fearing Chandler or Johnson?

Take a deep breath Mrs. Chandler, no one is attacking your boy.
No problem little man

Pope wants to maximize this lineup.

But even if we can’t land another stud, I feel pretty confident with Chandler, Williams, and Johnson filling in the blanks with Lowe and Oweh.

Chandler showed some flashes of brilliance toward the end of last season. He has good size, can shoot, and plays defense. He is also a team player.

Williams is ranked higher in the portal rankings than many of the guys we have been mentioned with, including Wilkerson. He’s a 3 and D guy. His length at 6’8 is excellent for a guard. His analytics look great. He could really break out this coming season.

Johnson is a 5-star recruit. Even though he did not look great in the Hoop Summit, who could with Cam Boozer taking most of the shots? Johnson is going to be a contributor and might could start.

So, if we could get a solid backup/role player, I would be okay with that and let those four battle for the spot starting beside Oweh on the wing.

I know we all want the big time signee to come in and finish the roster, but I think we are very good regardless.

I wonder which notorious multi-account poster this one is. Guess they have to keep burning accounts because whichever one they're on eventually gets enough people ignoring them that nobody's responding and they don't get the attention they're craving, so they start over on a new account.

I looked at their post history. It’s almost exclusively them laughing at people’s posts. Don’t know why people want to live their lives that way lol

Jasper has the home turf effect. That elevated reed Shepard in his 1 year. There’s that intangible unmeasurable of a hometown player on the roster. He may be fantastic he may be so pumped to play for UK that he plays like a top 5 recruit. It’s a possibility. It’s possible with chandler too. The bottomline is this. Those guys have yet to prove themselves and pope likes surety. He wants the best player on paper then let them fight it out and hope Chandler Johnson become studs in the process. Guys who can come off the bench and fill into 3 spots. Or beat out that true number 1. Pope I feel is hungry to land another top flight transfer.

I shared this in another thread....

The first 19 games Chandler played in he averaged 7.75 MPG, shot 26% overall and 15% from 3. Over the final 11 games he averaged 15 MPG, shot 42% overall and 48% from 3. It seemed it took Collin a little while to shake the 2 years worth of rust off and work himself into a steady rotation. So give him another 6-8 months to get into playing shape and shake of the rust and he will be the 2 guard we are all hoping for IMO.

And the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores

Yep because of the injuries he got the playing time he needed to improve.
Numbers are what they are you can't dispute your statement.

We are in the mix for every elite shooting guard we will land someone
There are some people that really know the game on a deep level that are excited about the possibility of Griffen. I’ve gotten very excited about that possibility as well, might be the last major domino we need to fall. Then, go get a a depth piece pg and we roll.

Last 10 games of the season, Chandler was 52% from three on 2.5 attempts per game in only 15 minutes per game.

He is going to be ready, but we need another flamethrower, imo.

Not ready to trust Johnson, although I think he’ll have his moments.

Want one more guy who will unabashedly fling 7 threes a night and expect them all to go in.

Not a have to have. Definitely somewhere between a want and a need.

I think Williams has flamethrower ability.

41% and shot 153 three’s as a Freshman.

Yes, the SEC is a step up, but this guy is 6’8 and athletic. Should be able to adjust.

Sure we want proven guys, but our younger guys need to get some run, too.
