Why not move to a 7 man rotation in basketball?

So here's how I'd revise Lineup and PT since I'd like to see us try Osby at the 4 some and we only have 7 guys than can really contribute unless Benock hit's three 3-pointers or something.

PG - Bost - 34 min
SG - Barry - 30 min
SF - Ravern - 32 min
PF - Osby - 25 min
C - Varnado - 34 min

Bench:

Phil - spells Ravern and Barry and thus gets about 22-24 min (b/c Barry spells Bost)\
Kodi - spells Osby and Varnado and thus gets 21 min a game (which is about what he's getting now)
Riley - situational only - maybe if we're not shooting well and team is playing a zone we'll see if he's hot
Wendell - situational if Kodi is in doghouse or we get into foul trouble
Riek - blowouts only

So basically we have a 7 man rotation.

As you show, you can easily work a 7-man rotation and get everybody plenty of rest. John Wooden never used more than 7 players and he ran a full court press defense all the time.

the way we sub makes me want to punch somebody....Benock should rarely play, he serves no purpose other than to appease some of the older white fans....

Reasons I think Stansbury is an idiot:

1. I cant for the life of me understand why a team with lots of guards and forwards like we have does not press and play full-court basketball...its just plain dumb to me the way we play. If you want to play 9 people, play more up-tempo and work hard to fatigue your opponent

2. With a team like we have that wants to shoot alot of 3's, why not have lots of backscreens? Thats the damn way you exploit defenses and get open 3's. The player closest to the paint has to stay put longer and help backside, therefore opening up the 3 point shot. If they switch, as defenses tend to do more these day, the screener rolls back to the basket, getting the pass and attacking the basket. Especially if this is done from a hi-lo principle in the middle of the lane.

I would like to see us force the pace by pressing and getting some easy layups. Also part of our problem has been a lack of production from the 4 spot. Kodi, Osby, and Phil have all but disappeared the last 3 or 4 games. All 3 of them have turned it over too much and can't hit the side of a barn lately.

when you have no decent offensive system and the other players are just standing around.

Kodi and Osby both will pass the ball to a team mate that has a defender all over him and is not even remotely open. Also they tend to try and run over people when driving to the lane. Kodi has played like dog **** lately. Ravern's hot hand really covered for the poor play of Bost and Augustus in the games we won in the last 2 weeks.

we just stand the 17 around!!! We have to throw passes to people that are being smothered...we arent backscreening...we arent setting doublescreens to get people open...we just stand the 17 around

We have to run over people trying to drive to the basket...there is nobody to pass it to

I agree Kodi isnt playing very well- but neither is alot of other people...as I pointed out- the 4 teams we have played this year that were decent, have shut us down offensively and cause poor shooting. Our offensive system is the cause of this

That does not however explain why Kodi and Osby do the exact same **** when we play nobodys. It is what they do. They just simply are not smart players. You can't take Princeton's offense and put players that are not basketball smart into it and expect it to work. Again a near total lack of production from whoever is playing the 4 is really hurting us.

I don't think our team is really designed all that well for full court press. Maybe it would work, but I think our defense is fine for the most part so I don't see a big reason to depart too much. I'd like to maybe see the 1-3-1 halfcourt trap or something from time to time but I'm fine with our defense.

Agree that our offensively philosophy may not need that much changing (being a perimter oriented team) but that our execution to get shots needs a ton of changing. Backscreens are good and some backdoor cuts by some guards would also help loosen the defense.

I'm still more in favor of the Phoenix Suns philosphy of drive and dish...it's the closest to what we're doing now.
