It starts around round 2 and it's because teams want the extra day to prepare and once they go to Saturday they aren't willing to lose the extra day of prep by going back to a Friday game.

Teams can have it whenever they want as long as they agree. If they can't agree the game is at 1pm Saturday.

Most teams will want the extra day to recover and watch film.

First round should be Friday unless more than 100 miles apart. Every game forward should be Friday unless a team plays on Saturday or games are more than 100 miles apart. You do that and you have some Friday games throughout the playoffs most years.

I like Friday semi finals for the lower classes since the state games are also Friday.

I think that once the time change and the weather changes, they have found that Saturday afternoon games draw bigger crowds. Think about it. It’s dark, it’s cold, the game’s an hour away. And it’s on YouTube. Done
