Why Rutgers? Why?

I attended the 2019 NCAA wrestling finals in Pittsburgh and sat beside a couple Rutgers fans. I was already seated when they came in and we did the usual "Hi, how are you?" routine. When they saw my PSU gear the one guy kind of snorted and said, "Pfft. Penn State". He pretty much avoided me after that. It was a weird interaction. After each match I applauded the winner regardless of school because if someone wins the individual title, why not?? When I applauded for Suriano and Ashnault, the guy beside me gave me some confused looks. Apparently applauding someone who isn't on your team is a foreign concept to them. But hey, chop that wood.

My wife and I were at 2015 at home vs. Rutgers when Saquon had 195 rushing in their B1G opener. The rain got harder and harder during the game. So much so, that we were getting misted in our seats under the North upper level. The people in front of us left after the first quarter and after the half, a couple of punks wearing red decided they were sick of getting wet so they were going to stand there and boo our team. I politely to them to GTFO of the seats because they belong to others. šŸ˜‰

Yeah - I don't get the a-hole Rutgers Fans chanting F Penn State even when they aren't playing PSU. Living in SEPA and listening to sports talk radio here there is a ton of PSU hate which I found stems from many on the radio here being alums of Temple whose fans have a weird obsessions with PSU - envy because they couldn't get into PSU - it's stupid because a good chunk of your audience either went to PSU or have kids/relatives that did.

I have been to over 50 other colleges for athletic events. My car has been vandalized at only two. Rutgers and Pitt. I do, however, appreciate what happened to my car after we beat Illinois in '94. I had a Penn State PA vanity plate (since stolen in Kentucky, of all places). When I returned to my car, some inventive soul had removed it and reinstalled it upside down. I admired the sentiment.

We were at the Rate Bowl. I always root for B1G teams in Bowl games (I know. I know.) So I was rooting for Rutgers - until the B1G Coast to Coast commercial came on the video board in the 3rd quarter. Their fans booed the PSU logo.

They got what they deserved. šŸ˜‚
I would rather root for the Taliban than Rutger/Pitt/WVU/Maryland :)

Me either but Pitt does the same thing. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø Little brother syndrome, or in their cases little sister.

Why do they exist? HS kids in NJ need backup schools I guess.
Let’s not make up numbers (we’re in the 60s)
Rutgers University—New Brunswick's ranking in the 2025 edition of Best Colleges is National Universities, #41.

I can appreciate the hatred these fans of the weak football schools have for us. What I don’t understand is the continual harping on it over social media. Give it a rest already. There are schools I cannot stand, mostly because of their fans. I don’t post about it.

Personally, if the Jerry S situation happened at another school, I would likely never, ever post about it on the internet. You cannot read a PSU thread on X or Instagram with some dumbass making a stupid (usually inaccurate) comment.

It’s absolutely little brother syndrome and you see it with Pitt, Rutgers, Temple, and Maryland. If you ever want to see childish behavior, just visit their places when they play PSU. I’m still annoyed Penn St gave Temple a home/ home football series. We should just drop them forever.

At only two visiting stadiums have fans wanted to fight me, that would be at pit and at Rutgers. The game in 2014 over there was probably the most vile group of people I’ve ever been associated with. Combine that with their lack of logistical understanding on how to make their buses transport people back after the game to the lots I wouldn’t care if the ever win a game.

Like some PSU fans do with OSU and Michigan, crying about the refs.

I’m not sure what chanting F Penn St while playing other teams has to do with people complaining about reffing, (though I do agree that there’s a handful here who are way too obsessed with that issue).

The equivalent would be Penn St playing SMU last week and Boise St this week and chanting F Ohio St all game.

This was Rutgers 1977 they were a floundering program destined to the FCS, Joe bailed them out by scheduling them.
Should have let their program here. 1735323956143.png

I went to the Penn State-Rutgers game in ā€˜93. A friend of mine was on that Rutgers team and left his two family passes. A friend and I went up on Thursday and had a blast straight through the postgame. During the rainy game my friend and I (both inebriated) sat and loudly mocked Rutgers ineptitude. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter as I started sobering up that it occurred to me that all the people sitting around us wearing red were family members of other Rutgers players. They must have agreed with us because not one of them said a word.
