Why UCONN?

There is basically no difference in security in being in the Big XII vs the ACC except the ACC has a longer GOR. Louisville was screwed either way, as are we.
Disagree as Big 12 currently listed 3rd in best conference remaining. But anyone asked to join SEC or BIG 10 will leave.

Your last sentence is all that matters, 3rd or 5th you’re screwed. Beyond that, the ACC’s TV deal lacks because they negotiated a crap deal because they kissed ESPN’s ring. The Big XII got a better deal because they boxed the mouse and Fox against each other and also did so at a more opportune time with the market for live sports content at a premium. Clemson and FSU have more clout than the Big XII leftovers combined, if for whatever reason those two commit to the ACC beyond the GOR, that league is the de facto 3rd best conference.

If that were so then wouldn't those 2 be in BIG 10 or SEC already? ACC blows and everyone knows it.

They could have left before signing.
I don’t think the powers that be had arrived to the current conclusion of “let’s just ditch the lesser schools” at that point. That whole European Superleague idea really opened up eyes in the college world IMO.

Yet we may be days away from Colorado rejoining the Big12. That school has been awful at everything for decades. For a brief time they have some Deion buzz, but he will not stay there long, whether he fails or succeeds. I think UConn actually offers more and last years Uconn football team was pretty good under first yr coach Mora. WHY would they come? Money. Money to keep and hire coaches, build facilities.

Meh on Colorado, but poaching one of the PAC schools assures the Big XII will be higher in the pecking order of the 3 leftover conferences. They do have a good history and a recent football national title, market is decent and better than anything available.

UConn football winning 6 games with their schedule last year is basically a bad Marshall team. That was tied for their best season in a decade. This is all tied into the package of that the only reason they exist at the FBS level is because the now defunct Big East Football league convinced them to do it, which has lead to the program becoming financially unstable and they also play in an off campus rental stadium that has none of the amenities an NFL stadium would have. The only lipstick on this pig is they won a tiebreaker in a very bad year for the Big East and got to go to a Fiesta Bowl once in an 8-5 season.

UConn football is a worthless asset. Adding them only makes sense if basketball starts to increase in value and even then it’s debatable if UConn would be convinced to jump.

I would give them a partial share, lay down some expectations and mile posts for full membership. I agree that Colorado would be less important if Arizona or ASU, or UTAH or even SDSU committed to the Big12 before them. I would not be surprised to hear that Yormark is hinting that there may only be 2 spots available for PAC teams. Smoke about Gonzaga and Uconn may be useful smoke or maybe its real.

That's what counts in today's sports world. Revenue.
Which conferences have the least number of Nattys in the two major sports since the turn of the century? Hint: one of them gets paid the most via TV contract. Spin away….

Connecticut beat WVU when Bill Stewart was head coach. Move on with your insanity.
You are so scared of Connecticut little Caped one. It truly doesn't make your middle school education look too good! Do you even know where Connecticut is?

UCONN will definitely help BY negotiate a separate media deal for BB. When everything shakes out over the next few years, you will see little separation between the P5 league’s revenue wise. The growth in fees paid is going to level off, and you will see ESPN go on the block by Disney

It has nothing to do with who will beat WVU and about what is a wise business decision. UConn has been available to the Big XII forever, what has changed? Is basketball now suddenly worth more than it was yesterday? Is it because a program playing a mostly G5 schedule won 6 games last year? Might as well put Temple and Villanova on the table if this is the bar we’re setting for membership.

What has changed? How about a new commissioner that was formerly the COO of the New Jersey Nets and brought NASCAR into the 21st century. He understands how to monetize brands.

I don’t even know what point you are trying to make, a conference commissioner is going to make people care more about the sport of college basketball? Because this isn’t a Big XII branding issue, it’s the entire sport that needs to become appealing and the Big XII commissioner has very little power to make that happen. The old Big East hoops conference was one of the most successfully marketed conferences ever and it barely moved the needle.

The biggest issue plaguing CBB TV appeal is the NCAA tournament. Every mediocre team under the sun gets to play and the hottest teams in that moment are the ones who prosper. Given that the tournament is the only money maker the NCAA has, it isn’t going anywhere, in fact it’s just going to get bigger eventually and devalue the regular season further.

He does have a point though. Outside of the tournament, basketball really doesn't move the needle.

I commend Yormock for his idea, its trying something different. He is in a tough spot taking over after losing two cash cows in Oklahoma and Texas. His job will not be easy.

I think he is gravitating to basketball because he has done a fantastic job with the Nets. The challenge is for NBA they have a much larger global influence with the influx of European players. College sports just don't move the needle overseas.

His idea IMO is bracing for the inevitable fall of Big XII football as a perceived power conference, and the revenue drop that will accompany it eventually in relation to the B1G and SEC. His goal is making sure the remaining members still have a big time platform for another sport. He is not going to wave a magic wand and make the regular season of college basketball become a valuable property to networks, and close the revenue gap with the B1G and SEC through hoops, that is a pipe dream.

Not sure what is meant by claiming the BE tried the UConn experiment and it didn't work? Huh? UConn won the conference towards the end there and went to a major bowl, beat their fair share of BE teams and had many many NFL draftees during that time, only a few years removed from moving up.

They were actually pretty successful for the BE.

Now, they still have the best bb program men's and women's overall in the country. They still have a very significant prescence in New York City, and football is independent and doesn't require getting them out of any conference.

Once the SEC and Big Ten finish off the ACC, UConn would be as good a pick as what's left of Pitt, Syracuse and BC from that league as well, with the best basketball which the new commish intends to monetize.

The BIG 12 is the far more stable conference. No one is now trying to depart or block positive moves, its in line to expand and most importantly ESPN has stated it will be one of the major conferences it televises into the future, and FOX and ESPN have signed on the dotted line for a new more lucrative contract with new additions that keeps the BIG 12 in third place.

The ACC has multiple programs desiring and seeking a way to leave and the lowest per school payout that currently goes until 2036. Nothing stable at all about the aCC.

You’re just rephrasing points that have already been made.

Big XII = 3rd
3rd = not part of the 1st or 2nd conferences that stand to be in a much better position than 3rd
Any Big XII program that is asked by the B1G or SEC will leave, same with the PAC and ACC, so by that definition, the league is only as stable as the B1G and SEC allow.

Bucky always fail to understand that the Big 12's stability is due to the Sec and Big 10's lack of interest in the available programs that are available for poaching.

Retardation has struck the trolls. The money matters to the presidents of the school. That's why college sports has been ruined.

Big 12 still around and ACC clings to a vine as FSU, Clemson and Miami wanting out because they make no money. PAC 12 on life support.

EVERYBODY KNOWS BIG 10 AND SEC HAVE ALL THE MONEY AND TITLES DUMBASS.

Guarantee, first time Big 10 or SEC comes knocking Big 12 team says bye bye. Only problem is none of them are wanted by those 2.

Are you really that big of an idiot? What titles does the B10 have? Your post smacks of little man syndrome. Seems to be overcompensation on your part.
