To me it has nothing to do with race, just overall safety. Baltimore used to be a great convention city but many have cancelled because of safety issues? Now they are all going to Vegas, haha

Change thread title to "why would anyone want to live in Baltimore". City currently sucks, not just for people of color. And this after billions of dollars recently flowing through.
It's a good indictment of the current political model. I'm sure a good portion of the money went to political allies on rich construction/demolition contracts.

Was in Baltimore once for a concert as an 18 year old... couldn't buy beer in a gas station/grocery store/CVS or whatever and had to go inside an actual bar where they had a small section selling six packs... resolved never to return; i have held my resolve
A good friend of mine lives there and teaches at an inner-city charter school. He teaches social studies (was actually named Baltimore's Teacher of the Year a couple weeks ago) and loves the history associated with the area. He prefers to teach by taking his class to battlefields and other historic sites instead of sitting in class. There are plenty of opportunities to do that around Baltimore. He and his wife are also foster parents for 3 kids from the inner city whose biological mom is a crack addict.
So if you want to make a difference in the lives of kids, it's probably a good place to live.

Moving isn't always that easy. Especially if you are hovering below median income levels.
Our household income is significantly higher than the median household income and it would be more feasible for us to pee dandelions than to relocate, atm.
It's a victim issue. I could get on the phone and in 30 minutes talk to a dozen black people significantly better off than my family. I could also talk to quite a few white people that are straight trash.
3 of the 6 officers indicted in the Freddie gray "murder" are black. Sad state this country has come to when we're so hateful were racist against our own race.

People with money abandoned cities after ww2. Reurbanization from the 50s to the 80s consisted of building low income high rises. Thus, no tax base and higher crime. Now desirable sections of cities are undergoing gentrification. Poor people are isolated/exiled. It's just that the poor, white, desperate criminals in Harlan or Huntington don't have a card to play.

In general people don't seem to realize how not terrible it is to pickup and move.

If your situation is bettered by moving & the associated cost of moving -- you move. People have been doing this since the beginning of time.
Only experience wasn't good. Crossed a street and found myself about to be I don't know what by a bunch of guys. Crossed back over and was fine. Ran a red light to do it. You'd think that was a lesson I'd learned, but I certainly did that evening. I get that people have to go where opportunity arises, but I'd say beware where you go. Never been back since.
I can hardly wait. I need a new television and have always wanted to burn down someone else's home then make a complete *** of myself on national/international news.
I want to be a credit to all other "white folks".

Must have been some more black folks shot by white cops this weekend in Baltimore. Or maybe the ferals were making up for the curfew. They managed to shoot 28 people but only killed 9. Grandpa always said the street thugs had a problem shooting straight. I would be ashamed of myself if I could only kill 9 out of 28 shot. This reinforces the fact blacks are not a threat to whites. They can't hit the broadside of a tobacco barn and have no idea how much hell they would pay if they really got the ole boys stirred up. So I guess they will stay in the big Northern cities and shoot each other. They are safer that way. Very few riots have occurred in the Southland of this nation. Not much future in it down here.
Don't forget to go shirtless, wear a doo-rag for a mask, have your pants halfway down your *** and of course, be unemployed.
