That was way too exciting but they should be well rested by the next game.

I need to watch the replay, but watching in person, there were some of worst ref calls in the second half that I can remember! They should force these refs to watch replays of their calls. Just Barnstable alone was called for 3 ridiculous fouls. The refs absolutely created momentum for WSU!

Take away the ref calls & we win easily tonight. So glad the players kept their composure and made the winning plays & free throws down the stretch!

The refs made at least 4 bad calls in a row. I began to worry they were illegally betting on the game.
so proud of the finish to shut up the shocker fans. I hope they enjoy their 5 hour trip back to Wichita.
Paul Mills who I respect was a total embarrassment becoming a cheerleader turning to his fans to urge them to go crazy as if they needed it

happy to send them home with second loss on our court

my view is the L in Birmingham is a null
TU played a late 3 OT W over a hated UNT thug team. Then DG separated his shoulder early v WSU. It was clear our guys
Were fatigued.

but happy to be in the NIT

USF lost in their game after their “great”
3 point shooters were brick in the first half

I cannot be in Indy or watch our game since
I will be in NYC on business
If we win I may be able to be there

I’m an older dude
Never seen us win the NIT the two times we did it

i expect a final v Auburn

Paul Mills… you just got Konkoled
Why did we not try to hire mills when he left oru after a sweet 16 run a few years ago don’t we have more prestige and nil money than wichita state does. mills might be an ahole but he took oru to the sweet 16 not 25 years ago but recently and after he left oru has been in 340 nit rankings he recruits well like what he had at oru makes great in game decisions adjustments and is a good xs and os guy.

Sad when we start like we did everyone on the team thinks they can just go one one one and make something happen. Konkle needs to settle this team down!
Very good observation! I had similar comments to my son in the stands while watching our first half.

If we passed the ball at least once, we were scoring at a very high rate. If the guy who brought the ball over midcourt tried to score himself, it was a much lower success rate. I’m sure as detailed as Konkol & staff are with analytics, they will point this out to the team.

Once Tulsa got the big lead the refs started calling everything on Tulsa. Already had a huge FT disparity at halftime and that continued throughout the second half until Wichita tied up the game. Then the refs called it even.

No one will ever convince me that refs cannot control a basketball game because they can and they do.

GO TU!!!!

Just when I thought he wasn’t paying attention, Konkol’s call to set the high screen for Barnstable’s driving layup with about a minute and a half to go was brilliant.
I think that was Riley who hit the layup over the 7’2” guy. Rigsby set the screen. If you watch the inbounds pass to Riley at the end, you will see some pro wrestling from him and his defender to get loose. Barnstable had already been tackled.

The tackle of Barnstable was crazy with no call. Glad it ended in Riley's hands with 2 nothing but net free throws

Just gotta say again, that was a helluva game!
I wish I could have attended with you. It reminded me of some of the Nolan versus Gene Smithson games. We had crazy students back then with guys wearing Smithson wigs.

And the high level of players during those matchups. Antoine Carr, Cliff Livingston, Greg Dreiling, Xavier McDaniel, Aubrey Sherrod and for Tulsa Paul Pressey, Greg Stewart, David Brown, Steve Harris, Bruce Vanley, Herb Johnson, Ricky Ross, Tracey Moore, the Slug brothers, I mean the Rahilly bros.

There was so much talent on those 2 teams.
The final AP team ranking for Tulsa was
81-82 #10
83-84 #12th
84-85 #18th

The final AP ranking for WSU was
82-83 #14th

You’re correct, it was Riley with the layup after the well set screen.

Was attendance really only 3200?
It sure seemed like a lot more than that. The six lower bowl sections between the baseline were totally packed as was an upper deck section filled with Wichita fans behind the Shocker's bench. Someone said that the students were not counted. I seemed closer to 5,000 to me but that maybe because I was scrunched into a narrow seat in a jam-packed section. Everyone there had a blast.

i have a habit of sitting in the same place no matter which section I buy a seat in. I have several reasons, but I will preface it with a statement that I am always ready to give up my seat and have only offered it once when the section was semi full which it never is. I sit in the handicapped section close to the concession stands as you walk in the front door, is close to concessions, outside for smoking, and near restrooms. I had to be able to leave when I was taking care of my neighbor when she was not able to walk very well, in case she got into a bind while I was at a game.

Now that I have prefaced it with all that, so that hopefully nobody will pooh pooh me for setting in the hancdicapped section when I'm not handicapped (except maybe mentally)....

I was higher up and looking out on the crowd from there and could see just about every section, except maybe the one below the handicapped section. But even that one is pretty visible to the eye setting above it.

My estimate would have been a lot closer to your estimate of 5000 than anything they quoted for attendance. My guess would have been something like 4-5k and more towards 5k than 4k.

Looks like tickets to the semifinal is 50 bucks a game and the championship game is about 45 bucks. Weird really

https://www.ncaa.com/nit-ticket-information
4 teams with an interest in buying semi-final tix (charge more because of potential demand) vs 2 interested teams for the finals (entice greater demand from casual fans with lower price) would be my assumption on their rationale.

Tulsa World writer estimated 2,000 Wichita State fans so if that is accurate then there had to be more than 1200 Tulsa fans. Geez.

Last couple of games I checked the box score just because the crowd seemed decent and the listed attendance seemed absurdly low, especially considering what was recorded during the regular season
