Yea I am still having them. Need help on the best solution.

2 story house with TWC internet. I have the combo router/modem thing. And just upgraded to UP TO 30 MBPS.

My directv in the room next to the modem cannot upload movies, and my new smart tv upstairs cannot even get the internet. The internet on the laptop upstairs is a little better than dial-up, and any other laptop downstairs is not at all fast.

I don't remember ever having this slow of an internet access. Pages are slow to load, and videos buffer. Got 2 IPHONES, 2 IPADs, and 3 laptops, but they are never on at the same time, so not sure if all this is because of too many devices.

Buddy says get rid of the TWC crap and go buy a new modem and router....Is that the best option?
Thanks in advance.

Was in the same boat our internet couldn't reach the edge of the house. As well as having intermittent problems. I recommend splurging if you stream a lot. I did and now can get wifi in whole house. Bought new modem and router. Not sure modem but router is WRT 1900 ACS. Loving it!!

P.S. If you have phone service they try to screw you, the only modem they have can support phones. You can use your own modem for Internet and keep their modem for the phone and that gets rid of rental they want to charge...

Have you tried switching it for another router/modem from TWC?

My TWC modem/router works fine for my two story house (plaster walls to boot).

The TWC at my old apartment was terrible and I went through a handful of routers. Finally, a tech got on the roof and admitted that the cable was frayed and moisture would get into it when it rained or snow piled up. They replaced the run to the pole and we never had another problem.

Try this.

Turn off all devices connected to Internet. Unplug router/modem gateway for a few minutes. Plug back in.

You need to hook an Ethernet cable from your modem, not router (unless combo) to a desktop or laptop. It has to be wired.

Go to speedtest.net.

Run test.

Do all this and post results. First you have to see if Internet or wifi. By disabling wifi, you can isolate whether Internet issue.

If it's below 30mbps speed, call twc and ask for tier 3 tech support. See if there is an outage affecting service.

Twc has crap modems/gateways. But see if your getting your 30 you're paying for. Post results and I'll walk you through more

One suggestion. You are paying Time Warner a bunch of money for their service. Tell them to come fix it.

But I would also echo most of the other suggestions about getting better equipment. Motorola cable modem with an ASUS router is a pretty effective combination. A good router is going to probably run around $100 - 150. Don't buy the low end crap or you will just create the same problems. This is something you use every day so be willing to go a little big on it.

If money is a problem, one possibility that might work for T-Mobile customers is to go into the store and request a T-Mobile branded router. It will cost you $25 bucks but it is actujally a high end ASUS router that normally runs between $150 - 200. It is specifically designed to help folks who are having problems with their T-Mobile signals in their homes. So, if you want to go this route tell the sales rep you are having signal problems.

My cable modem was the problem. Has TWC out several times, finally they figured out that it was messed up. I went out and bought a new one; tossed the old one in the recycling bin and went on my way.

Two years later collections calls saying that I owe TWC for the router. Took me three months to get that situation resolved. The moral: TWC sucks.

This is wrong on a lot of levels. First, it may be something in his house causing the issue of intermittent connection/no connectivity and not twc. So without isolating the issue, you dont know. While TWC does indeed suck, you cant base the resolution off that just yet. It probably is the gateway, but you dont know until then. It could be something with his Direct Tv.

TWC has an approved list of modems, so need to get all crazy. You can get quality routers for under $50 bucks, so that is wrong. Not everyone needs a nighthawk. Depends on a few factors. I have seen a lot of people buy crap they dont need when a $20 linksys works just fine.

T-Moblie customers? That has nothing to do with this. He can get an LTE extender if he is a tmobile customer.

Not familiar with your product but you left out a whole lot of information. 2.4 or 5g capable? If you have both available connect your streaming devices to 5g and your other devices to your 2.4. As I say I am not familiar with your wireless products. I have fiber to the house and use a cheap netgear router plugged straight into that. (This may be one tip to get you better performance IF you have both available...

I did as you suggested.....

Hooked into Ethernet:
Download speed was 37.20 Mbps
Upload speed was 6.31Mbps

Wireless speeds were:
Download speed was 14.93
Upload was 5.96

Fiddle with these settings under channel width

http://www.timewarnercable.com/en/support/internet/topics/home-wifi.html

It is likely hat simply changing channel from say 11 to somehing else will fix your problem, otherwise try different locations for router if feasible and move other electronics from near vicinity
This.

However, call tier 3 tech support at twc. They will say there are a lot of factors that affect wifi. Make sure you have a DOCSIS 3 modem. The bonds guy linked one.

How old is modem?

Most likely, it's your router not being able to push the speeds over area, but had to rule out the cable.

Would recommend buying a $100 modem, pays for itself in a year with twc.

The apple airport or a mid range modem. Wi-fi range is 25-30 ft, but walls, appliances, wiring etc can have an effect. An extender is a cheap option.

Google the type of modem you have. Should have a generic IP address like 192.163.xxx or something like that.

Enter that in your web browser. Will let you interface the modem
