It also drew the highest viewership on tv since 1992. I'd say that is people watching but what do I know-I'm not a Chicago centered outdated sports writer who nobody respects or pays attention to either.
No doubt. However, this is a man so detached from current sports world--he's still dropping 1996 Chicago Bulls references and MJ references to make sure his "favorites" are always brought up. He and Kornheiser are awful. They just don't know much about how sports in this era is perceived. If it's not Chicago centered/or Wilbon liked-he puts it down.
Wilbon is worried about his lame Blackhawks and Bulls (currently choking away a 14 point lead to a Love/JR Smith less Cavs team), and even is always hyping the lame Cubs, who we all know have 0 chance of winning their division over the vastly superior franchise (and city) in the St. Louis Cardinals.
I find it bizarre that the Kentucky Derby exists one state north and in TN you wouldn't know it ever happened. I've lived in 3 different states and it simply is ignored...oh, how we miss Ky during derby season.
It amazes me how idiots get under the skin of some people. Like misery is enjoyable or something.

where are you at in TN? I am in Knoxville and was invited to several different Derby parties. My wife and I went out to eat at Aubrey's and she ordered Four Roses neat and they were out due to customers drinking it because of the derby
The word Cubs and the phrase "winning their division" in the same paragraph looks funny.
Sounds like you are letting a harmless post get under your skin, huh? How about following your own advice?
for me personally the Derby has lost some of its luster. I think maybe because there just hasn't been an amazing horse in the last 20 years. I know its still a big event but there just doesn't seem to be much build up to it until the week before.

Glad for the record attendance and the big TV audience, but I was in Michigan at college graduation for my daughter this weekend. One of the parents of her classmates threw a big party for her friends, 24 kids from all over the country, and their parents and grandparents. We turned the TV on about 20 minutes before the Derby to watch.
Of the 60 or so people there, besides me, my daughter and my wife, maybe three other people even knew it was being run. They watched it to be polite to us, but two minutes after it was over, 90% cleared out of the room. And before the race, tried to talk to some of the adults about the race, and they painfully and obviously had no idea what I was talking about and couldn't care less. Was a sobering moment of clarity for me.
I've lived in Kentucky my entire life. I've been to the Derby one time. Not sure I saw the race the one time I went. A love of horse racing doesn't exist in my family. I have friends who have Derby parties - but they want an excuse to have parties. I also have friends who love to gamble - so they have an excuse. I have a cousin-in-law who owns a share of a horse and a different friend who owns a share of a horse (nothing big-time).
The Derby is great but I don't personally "care" about it one way or the other.
