Beav- I hear people say this but what is it based on? Do people really think IF he is the best that he would languish on the bench given all of the problems we have had? I don't see it. I watched the few plays he played and while he showed some deceptive moves he didn't exactly light up the field with yards gained. How that all translates into #1 I don't know. If everyone can get a good read from that small sample size there are a lot of great scouts out there. He MAY in deed may be the second coming, but how that is determined from the short time he has been on the field I don't know.

Not speaking for beav, but I think the excitement isn't just about a few plays this fall... It's what people have mentioned seeing in practice, etc. the access some have to the program is what has people excited.

to help Bev out here, the Times I seen him run he had that same shiftiness Abdullah had, in my opinion he's got that Abdullah "it" to make defenders miss. Now I agree we have no idea YET how his vision is. Only time can tell with that. Hopefully he stays and we get to see first hand and I don't mean torching our Blackshirts.

There isn't anyone comparable to wilbon, and yes, the small sample size is plenty. The difference between wilbon and newby / cross is glaring. Oz looks good, but again is a little different runner.

A small sample size is impressive; when he is the only one doing it and its outstanding and hard earned. Along with the other positive comments. Some time ago ; it was posted these coaches will give you extra bench time for behavioral issues.

I guess he looked pretty damn good towards the end of the year and had a lot of Ameer-esque qualities. Heard this from a former player.. Take it for what it is worth. Posters here back his talent; but the issue became something other than talent, posted on here. Since reports circulated he could end up gone; he has been very team spirited publicly and one would think setting an example. I look for a great future for him. Maybe he was a part of the " poisoned well " situation; but these are his coaches now. We all want that exceptional edge; but Ameer showed how to do it for and as a part of the team and with the coaches you are with - can't let a player set a me first tone. GBR

The guy had 9 rushes for 35 yards, 21 yards of which were against the Southern Alabama defense. (Newby ran for 198 against that defense, with roughly the same yds/carry.) His 3.9 yards per carry is the lowest of any running back on the team, and is only higher than Armstrong (3.7) and Fyfe (-5.0) for players who have more than 3 carries. He did catch two passes, for 28 yards.

I think Wilbon has promise, but it's not like he lit it up like Maurice Clarrett as soon as he stepped on the field. Hopefully the kid sticks around and continues to develop. I think it's a position that is ripe to be taken over by someone who really improves. Newby is tentative, Cross is gone, and Ozigbo is just about as green as Wilbon. It's on open field, with Newby only slightly ahead at this point.

It is as simple as watching those 9 carries and 2 catches.

First. Only the coaches know the truth for sure if he is good or not. Second if it was just ability that is keeping him off the field wouldn't be have gotten even some carrys at garbage time or on special teams. I know we didn't have much garbage time but not one carry? I think it was grades or something else imo. In the hallway of the stadium last year he was on the plaques as scout team offensive player of the week about every week. For what it's worth? I hope he sticks around. I think he could be a good one.

That's a tough comparison as he was allowed no rhythm. Newby was afforded all the carries and didn't do well. I think if Wilbon would have been the man he might have gone for 300 against South Alabama as Newby missed a ton of opportunities. The real fact at hand is we don't have a feature back and Wilbon could be that guy.

I think that's a fair point, but the thing I like about Wilbon is that he just looks so much quicker than any other back we have. Maybe because of the small sample size he was hyped up and running faster than he would over a full game, but his explosion is undeniable.

Hoping he works hard this off-season and gets a shot.

I know the quote about "lies, damn lies, and statistics," but if was well above everyone else, you would think it would show up a little better in the numbers. Of course they are unproven. Isn't that what we do . Talk about what ifs and speculation. It's no different then a recruit. A recruit has never played a down but we give opinions on them and what we think could be. Imo Wilson could be a good one that's all.

My point is, by the eye ball test, he simply looked quicker than any other RB, when he was on the field. I have no idea how he tests vs the other backs, but with the pads on and the bullets flying, he looked much quicker than Newby and Cross to the hole. I don't think we played with a Big Ten quality RB this year and that needs to change.

It has to do with how aggressively he makes his moves and how he doesn't waste a bunch of motion. He sees his lane and attacks it, and then he gets the yardage that is there. He's fast, he's sudden, and he's efficient from what I've seen.

IIRC he was also very impressive on scout team his RS year.

As opposed to Newby, it's like the "juke" button is stuck down when he's trying to run. He can't just plant and GO somewhere, he's always dancing like he's setting something up. You gotta give him about 10 yards of empty space on either side, THEN he'll sprint.

Then you have Cross who sometimes will just plow into things whether there's a lane or not.

I've like what I've seen from Ozigbo so far. Don't think he's as elusive as Wilbon, but he's had some nice runs.
