Remember when people were saying he should transfer? I'm sure glad he is here. He played very well.
I think the D dictated the move. There were opportunities for some yards with their constant pressure. Newby took advantage early, Oz doesn't have the necessary wiggle and the straight ahead stuff was just not there. This type of D was made for Wilbon - create some misdirection and allow him to find the space with his quickness - also avoiding the blitz. The more we went outside the more effective he became and the less effective Oz was.
Best overall backfield group since Burkhead, Abdullah, green, & Heard. Probably less top loaded and more even though.
That fumble was not his fault. His momentum had stopped and he was going backwards in the hands of multiple defenders. Totally blown call by the refs. The defender runs up and plants; using a jerk of two arms on one to pull the ball out, when the play was in reality over by a full count.
I assumed it was the Chicago effect...
He played more than usual due to it being close to his home, like Westerkamp's designed plays tonight.
Always good to put the kids in the game when they get in front of friends and family!
It has to seriously make the player happy, especially if they hadn't been getting to play as much as they would like.

In on of the replays it looked like his knee was down before the ball came out.

You have a good point on his progress being stopped.
Remember Suh hitting Mizzou's booger eater (can't remember his name-Chase Daniels?) and he fumbled instantly when hit. They called him down by forward progress.
Easily could have been the same call.
I wondered about that. Did Ozigbo play much in the 2nd half or did he get banged up?
That tackle sure looked painful for Reilly!
Not sure how you call a horse collar tackle when he didn't grab near the top of the shoulder pads and only grabbed the rib pads.
The rule states: "A key element is the immediacy of the runner being pulled down, because of the risk of injury."
I am guessing it was because of the way he was pulled down, but it had nothing to do with his collar area whatsoever.
The way he was pulled down was the exact same way you come down with a horse collar so I can see them going with that call regardless due to the dangers of coming down like that. Either way I think he was out of bounds as well so some call was in order here.
No matter if it were a horse collar or not, it took place like about 3 yards out of bounds.
With the Ozigbo fumble, I understand the reasoning that it should have blown dead and I totally agree, but at the same time I think it's a great learning experience for a young back as well. You can't assume that they are going to blow the whistle. Hold on to that puppy no matter what. Don't put it in the hands of the officials to bail you out. Would we all have been ticked off if they blew the play dead early and he then got a second surge or push and scored? Agree it should have been called but again just hold on to it no matter what.
That's fine, but after 5 seconds of the whole team hitting you and ripping from all angles, it's a little hard to keep ahold of the ball.
That's not a normal football situation.
HA! Give me one example of when you have ever been impressed by Big 10 Officials. To me the next thing on the NCAA's to-do list should be getting rid of conference officials and having one pool of officials for all of FBS football.
The Ozigbo call was one of those too early or too late whistles. Was his forward progress stopped completely? Hard to say 100%. I bet anything if they would hsve blown it down exactly at the point he was still moving his legs and pushing forward and right in the middle of the whistle rolls off and over the end line, people would have been upset. As the official they were talking to said, the standard at the goal line is a bit different. Players know that and are taught to protect the ball.
Forward progress for sure on Ozigbo. The officials should use their whistle every now and again...

Good for Wilbon, he looked so fresh and really good. Glad to see coach Davis isn't afraid to use the "#4 guy on the depth chart".
While I generally prefer the one go-to back based on previous stars at Nebraska, I can't say I mind this committee business. Especially when it seems very open to new guys getting carries if they have a hot hand. I think it keeps everyone competitive and focused as you never know when you'll get your number called.
