So I had heard about the fires for a few weeks. I was in Pikeville on the 1st and our client there was discussing that some were burning in pike county. Talked to a client in barbourville on monday and they are dealing with them there. Then there has been a fatal accident near slade this morning, apparently due to low visibility from the smoke.

I've read information from the division of forestry that essentially every southeastern county except for clay county has an active forest fire.

Are we just essentially waiting for them to burn out?

I'm scheduled to be in barbourville tomorrow and pikeville on monday (was supposed to be there today, but got postponed). Not looking forward to the pikeville trip.

For those of you in the thick of it, stay safe.

There was one burning here a few days ago where I live in Pike county, but it has died down. There isn't really much local fire departments can do for them. Mostly the plan of action is to let it burn and fight the fire only when it comes near residential areas.

Lived in E Ky about 30 years ago. I was told that some residents actually set fires because they were able to get jobs fighting the fires.

Looks like most of them have burned out or are burning lower in the marrowbone/Regina area. Drive that way every day.

Grew up there and all my family still lives there. Haven't heard anyone doing that in my 47 years.

It was real bad last week. I think some of them have burned out. Some folks were literally standing outside their houses with water hoses protecting their homes. Bad stuff.

Lol, nobody in eastern Kentucky wants to get a job, no way they started a fire for work.

It is dry as hell around the Middlesboro area. Drove over to my mom's house yesterday specifically for the purpose of raking fall leaves away from the structure. Damn tinderbox.

Rained all day in Jefferson county so I guess there's no ban here. Time for a fire and some beer to prep for thanksgiving

I'll probably be visiting the Prestonsburg area between Christmas and New Year's Day. Should be wet by then though.
