Never understood this statement when a player chooses another program. When someone doesn’t commit to a program that means they don’t want to be there. And when someone commits, that means they want to be there. Works that way every time. 100% of the time.
Well he don’t want to be at Kentucky. He wants to be the man at Indiana so I don’t want him anyway. If he chose UK I would love him. He didn’t so f*** em. Hope Oweh comes back and shuts him down when we play them. But I get what you were saying

Did you see he didn’t want to be just another player at Kentucky. That doesn’t fit the Kentucky direction. Would not have been a positive. We dodged a bullet
That was my takeaway too. Pope meant what he said in his inaugural press conference. That’s why we are going to win and win big before long

He won't outbid teams. We would have missed on JQ except he took less than Auburn. Not many players will do that.
Hypotheticals don’t trump actuals.

Pope is trying to build a roster than can sustainably compete for championships and that’s why he’s doing it the way that he is. I really believe that.

I’ve been on here enough to see people give you a hard time frequently but I believe you’re a genuine fan who worries a lot. We are in good hands with Pope and he’s building rosters the way you have to if you want to win at the very highest level.

Trust the process and enjoy the ride, Cornbread.
If it doesn’t happen we will all be sad, but we are trying to do it the right way and IMO the best way.

More than likely he wanted to know he'd start and play a certain amount of minutes and I get the feeling Pope isn't going to promise anything and I know the dude is as honest as they come. Plus we ain't hiring his assistant coach at SHST just to land a transfer for a year.

All in all we have to find a shooter but this one doesn't bother me that much even though I thought it was a done deal.

With a roster like we have, that is only really missing one big piece, Pope should have not let this kid slip away.

Apparently DeVries flew out to see him today and offered his assistant coach at SHS a job at Indiana. That reeks of desperation to me. Good on him for making it happen but that won’t work I. The long term. Can’t offer every prospect a job and Way more money all the time.
It seems as if Indiana way over spent on Wilkerson. Apparently, they gave top 5 money to the 42nd ranked player.

So either lie to the kid or overpay him. Also let's start firing assistants when we can hire a recruits coach to land him. Sounds like a great way to run your program.

This makes no sense considering we have spent the 2nd most in the portal.
Yep.

We don't have infinite funds and minutes available to woo every hot portal prospect. Wilkerson chose IU and Acaden Lewis decommitted in llarge part due to that reason. Wilkerson wanted to be "the guy" and Acaden Lewis could easily see himself as low man on the totem pool in an expanding back court roster.

Darn!
And even a photo op with a thoroughbred race horse in the winner circle at Keeneland couldn’t get the job done.
Should have taken him to Maker’s Mark or Wild Turkey afterwards for a sample of good ole Kentucky bourbon. That might have been enough to changed his mind. lol
Yep, get him drunk and trick him into signing

Again. Shoulda had him a room with strippers. Money and bud and told him he’s gonna be a star. He’d committed right then. Miss the early cal days but f### cal for slacking off when he almost got caught. He was doing it at first. Just couldn’t coach. lol like Wall. AD. Cuz. MKG etc didn’t get paid and have fake ID’s and whatever they wanted. Got passed in school etc. let’s go back to cheating now thst we have a coach who can be a top 5 coach. Hes just gotta give kids visits that ain’t with a horse. What I said 1st part he would’ve committed then and there

It was about the money, people are parsing the interview too much. Next year will very likely be the most he ever makes in a year so if the delta was a notable amount (IU is hurting for players and has more budget left) then most guys in that situation are going to max out. These guys going up a level have never made much money and do not have NBA profiles so this is their shot.

Assuming the kid was truthful in saying he didn’t want to go to Kentucky and just be another Kentucky player, how would you propose Pope overcome that? You want someone who wants to be a standout in front of all his teammates or do you want someone who wants to come here and help his teammates win big?

How do you let an attitude like that slip away?
