Will Coach K maybe sign a foreign C/PF in 2020?

I just read California signed a 7 ft center from Germany. Wonder if Coach might look overseas for that 3rd or 4th big for 2020. Would be nice to get a multi year player who doesn’t need to have starter minutes next year but can provide backup in case of foul trouble or injury. Just can’t see Baker playing PF so Duke needs 3 bigs to get most of the minutes plus a bench player who is willing to wait his turn.

In today’s game there a lot of 4s that are Joeys size. We don’t know much about Joey right now but he could be a good 4 with the way k likes to play and how the college game is starting to be played. A lot will depend on his rebounding ability

Is Joey going to gain 25 pounds and play closer to the basket? I get the stretch 4, but he is a natural wf/sf.

Being a “4” anymore doesn’t require you to play near the basket. Doesn’t necessarily relate to a lot more wins or anything, but that is the trend we’re seeing.

Totally agree his natural and professional position would be in the wing, but in college I could easily see him as a forward in a pinch.

Getting overseas players can be tricky, especially because you're competing with European clubs that are likely to offer decent contracts... and then you have to deal with ESL issues that can often cause a lot of headaches with the player's eligibility. Much easier (time/resources) to take foreign kids that play high school basketball in the States.

Duke recruited Joey Baker with the expectation that he would grow/develop into a stretch 4.

In 39 years Jack White is the only player Krzyzewski has signed who did not play high-school ball in the United States and/or Canada.

So, the trend lines do not look positive for a Euro big man.
