So you’re a UK player who played all year to earn a bowl berth. The season has been a disappointment but not a complete bust and you have a chance to go out on a high note. But a few of the key pieces leave you and the rest of the team hanging. You play your heart out but lose to a team you could have beaten. Do you take it personally? I would.

Ending the season on a high note helps moral, possibly a little recruiting, 8-5 instead of 7-6, great memory for outgoing guys, great memory for fans attending, watching and listening and OOC winning streak that is flashed up on TV. Why anybody is OK with a loss, including the opted out players, is beyond me. Sitting here watching bowl games all day, players playing their hearts out, fans going crazy and coaches serious as dogs. I don't care if it is the Podunk Bowl, competitive spirit, another win and going out the right way is all in play. Whether it be a player or fan, not caring much about it is hard to absorb.

Well said. We all heard the reasons for Stoops choosing this game. But, in hindsight I wonder if we hurt recruiting some. Getting shut out / blown out. We wanted Nashville recruits attention and I worry we got the wrong kind. Record low attendance and scoring, not what we wanted.

You can slice it & dice it you can sugarcoat it all you want. But the bottom line is Levis & Rodriguez are quitters. Unlike Bryce Young & Will Anderson at Alabama who are both projected to be top-10 picks they chose to play in their bowl game. And unlike Josh Allen & Benny Snell who chose to play & help their teammates win a bowl game a couple years back. You will say. But what happens if they get hurt? You can rehab an injury. But these guys will have to live with the memories of watching their teammates struggle to score knowing that they could have made a difference.
If Levis & Rodriguez would have played yesterday, the 2 pick 6's would have never happened. Iowa would have scored 7 points UK would have probably scored 10 maybe 13 points & we would have won the game.
I wish these opt-out decisions were made before bowl announcements. When your talent opts out, the team should just decline. Look at Purdue today. They had NOBODY on the field against LSU. Just a waste of everyone's time and money - especially the fans who pay to travel.

I got cactus jacked for saying this on HOB. And by the way I agree 100 %. If you don't finish what you started then you are a quitter
I dislike the current environment immensely. I don’t blame players for it and they have to think about their future and their family. Mark Stoops left FSU in the middle of a dc contract. He a quitter?

Will Levis and C Rod have given SOOOOOOOO MUCH MORE to UK than what missing the FREAKIN Music City Bowl against Iowa could take away, it's BEYOND ridiculous to blame them for setting out!!!

I would feel HORRIBLE if either one were hurt in ANY way.

Will Levis' progress at UK was one of the MAIN REASONS coach Stoops was able to get the #1 transfer QB in ALL of college football to come here!!

And with C Rod, how LOYAL was UK to him by making him sit out the first 4 games PREVENTING him from becoming the ALL-TIME rushing leader here!!!

So before you guys start JUDGING these 2 kids, try to see where THEY are coming from!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH Will and Chris for ALL you gave to UK Football!!!
The problem is there is no one behind our starters across the board. If we had depth I think we may feel differently if next years qb and RB1 are playing that bowl game. The offensive game plan all season revolves around Levis draft status. His utilization killed the season. We had a terrible offensive coordinator who put Levis in a bad position. Put our team. It’s hard for me to judge Levis and CRod too much but at the end of the day they quit. Now if stoops encouraged them not to play that’s a different story altogether. I think stoops honestly wanted to get this season behind him and didn’t care.

Eh, not even comparable. One is a tournament/playoff that determines a national championship and the other is a bloated, archaic format of post season glorified exhibitions. The playoff is March madness and damn I look forward to having more of it in 2024.
Basketball is just as Archaic if not more only played with weaker players !

I will say if they both play in all star games, I will change my opinion of supporting their opt out of the bowl game. Maybe can see why Levis would play because I think the qbs are protected.

100 18-22 yr olds for the last 30 days not 1 took to any form of social media to express even 1% of the pissy attitude towards Levis or CRod in this tread.

How about providing the 100 social media posts from his teammates raving about his decision to skip the game.

Haven't played since the 19 fifties. My old high school coach always told us '"quiters never win winners never quit"!
Disappointing bowl game and I think Levis and CRod would have made a big positive differnce in the final score.

Anybody would know that the guys that played wanted to win. Everybody, including the players, has to know that those that did not play could have helped them win. Just because the team players did not jump up and down about the ones not playing, Common sense tells you they would rather for them to play so they are on the winning team. Ludicrous to think otherwise. To play in the SEC you have to be a pretty competitive guy which means winning is pretty big to you by nature. Even Stoops said he 'hoped' they played. Why did he say that? I would say because he wanted to win the game. Just like all their teammates, coaches and fans. Not sure what the significance of downplaying it is. Not caring about winning the game with whatever it takes is out of my realm of thinking.
