Will Matt Elam be a force this year?

^Oh no, I think you're misunderstanding me. Obviously you want him to get a double thus freeing up your defense. The point of the post was that he doesn't "have to" draw a double like some seem to imply.

Now, your point does have a lot of merit. But it depends on the offense and what they are trying to do.

If I gained about 200# I might give it a go, I would still be underweight for the position but my wife always complained about how hard I was to move in the morning.

Hard to believe what has happened to football, whatever happened to our All American tackles that weighed 240 to 245# like Sam Ball and Doug Davis?

Cause they were playing against 255-265 # lineman-325# lineman is what happened to the them and you know that jauk!lol

It's not that people don't understand what is a nose tackle's job. It's more that Elam has been a big disappointment in approximating that job. This is not quantum physics.

Perhaps, almost certainly, a redshirt would have helped. However, perhaps he only would have gotten more out of shape. Who knows. All we really know is Stoops had to put bodies on the field and Elam is not the only one who was/is not ready to be played.

Elam is young and may be on his way to becoming a good player. Last year he was not but he was not awful.

I know it's hard to lose weight, I'm always trying to drop a few pounds, but if I had millions riding on it, I would be very motivated to do it. I hope he doesn't turn into another Lorenzen.

Yeah I know that, in fact UK's opponents were playing against 240 and 245# DL when they played UK, I know Ball played both ways (along with Bird and a lot of others on Bradshaw's crew). Mo Moorman was considered a giant OL at 6' 5" and 255#, I never was that impressed with him at UK but he made All American after transferring to A&M.
