Will Neal Brown match pace or W-L vs. WVU history against same teams?

Against the teams that Neal Brown has coached at WVU, Neal Brown is 3-6 compared to WVU’s all-time record against that team. Did better than WVU’s average 3 times, worse than WVU’s average 6 times.

Those are the numbers talking, not me. Quarrel with the numbers.

WVU is 2-10 against Oklahoma.

Neal Brown L 14-52 in 2019 DNP in 2020

WVU is 6-4 against Texas Tech.

Neal Brown lost 17-38 in 2019 L 27-34

WVU is 6-3 against Baylor.

Neal Brown L 14-17 in 2019 W 27-21 in 2020

WVU is 6-4 against TCU.

Neal Brown W 20-17 in 2019 W 24-6 in 2020

WVU is 5-4 against Iowa State.

Neal Brown L 14-38 in 2019 L 6-42 in 2020

WVU is 4-8 against Oklahoma State.

Neal Brown L 13-20 in 2019 L 13-27 in 2020

WVU is 6-5 against Kansas State.

Neal Brown W 24-20 in 2019 W 37-10 in 2020

WVU is 5-5 against Texas.

Neal Brown L 32-41 in 2019 L 13-17 in 2020

WVU is 9-1 against Kansas.

Neal Brown W 29-24 in 2019 W 38-17 in 2020

Neal Brown was 5-7 at WVU in 2019 and 3-6 (7th) in Big 12

Neal Brown was 6-4 at WVU in 2020 and 4-4 (5th) in Big 12 and won Liberty Bowl against Army

From 5-7 to 6-4 is encouraging improvement. Matching that would be 9-3 in 2021 to match that ratio. I'll take it. Won't you.

The pace looks stronger than the Neal Brown vs. all-time WVU numbers, though. Which one will be accurate? Can't wait to find out.

I still say if we get good, consistent play from the QB position we have a good year. If not we will be below .500

This was the other planned..I hate Neal Brown account.

😂
This one and Bucky. Your alter Bucky is more in your face about it.

Teams change same as WVU.

They get better and others don’t

Hard for a school like WVU to control that.

How could WVU prevent Iowa State from turning into a Top 10 team?

People like the idea on defense to have a bunch of hybrid DBs.
If you look at the blueprint established by Neal Brown you like it.

Dana was more about the flash. The exotic things. Look at his house. Very Nordic/methodical but way too much flash
Neal Brown has more substance. Blue collar guys.
That is how it is being built.

Whats NOT in the numbers

1. Neal Brown inherited one of the youngest & least experienced teams in ALL of D1. This does not magically resolve itself, it takes a few years to go from that level of inexperience to experienced with quality veteran leadership.

2. The team Neal Brown inherited also did not have playmakers at multiple critical positions on both offense & defense.

3. DH's recruiting from 2015-2017 was horrible. The "top" rated players in those classes was not at WVU when Neal Brown took over. So what little upperclassmen players he did have was not high caliber + high impact players.

4. With how Neal Brown is improving talent levels at all positions, his recruiting is continuing to improve, but that talent takes time(YEARS) to mature+grow+develop+gain live reps. Its a slow process that requires a few years to really see results. That said, with how he is improving the overall team talent level, WVU's success will boil down to our QB room. Can Doege take that next step? Sure, I think contrary to what many people think, I think we'll see a vastly improved Doege this year. That said, he'll still be Doege, a game manager type of QB. Good enough to give Garrett Greene 1 more year to develop.. Depending who we get as a QB in the 22 class, either way next year will be our QB's first year starting. First year QB's typically are nowhere near their peak.. It usually takes 1 full year for a QB to find their rhythm, that said, Greene's skillset diversity could help mitigate the first year issues we see with Pro-Style QBs. Pat White & Trevor Lawrence are generational players and are not around every bend. I think our success will be largely dependent on Greene's development. Can he take a few strides during this season and replace Doege near season's end? If so, that'll def give him a leg up the following year.

So while many people will look at Neal Brown during his 4th year, and say.... "Its year 4 bro, 10 wins or go back to Troy", to those people I say, he's playing with the cards dealt, and building for long-term growth. The likelihood of Greene leading us to a Big12 Championship in his 1st year under center, is not likely. However....... I think his 2nd year under center will be our year to shine. By that time, Neal Brown will have filled out the QB room, with a couple quality backups ready to take the reigns from Greene..

So I project the 4th yr, may be a little disappointing, but it will be followed up with a very successful 5th year, which will be the spark on our programs growth & trajectory.

5. In 2020, The Loss to Texas Tech was due to a fluke fumble by Sam James that would have resulted in points.

6. In 2020, The Loss to Texas was due to the obviously biased refs not calling a blatant goalline PI, that was so obvious even the announcers were like WTF... This would have resulted in a likely TD with another 4 tries on the 2 yrd line, removing the L.

Watch WVU vs TCU last year

TCU has talent. They had the Thorpe Winner last year.
Always have a few future NFL players

2 5 star skill players who were freshman.
TCU ended the season where they probably could have beaten Iowa State.
Their game was close and was played early.

But WVU was able to control the game. Not to the level of where Neal Brown wants but tells you a lot about where the program is going

Good grief..the old they need a few more years of mediocrity defense. Kids dont stay around long enough to develop now. Got to win today.

WVU was in every game

The difference was up front. But in some of those games Neal Brown was able to adjust.
Point still stands that he wasn’t that far from finishing 7-1 in the conference without the OU game.

Oklahoma St, TTech and Texas were all at one time winnable.

One of those games Tony Fields didn’t play
The other two they couldn’t win because of the OLine.
Watch the Texas game. The OL couldn’t protect so they started getting the ball out quick to the flat.
With how the defense was playing they could have won that game with better OLine play

OL is what will improve this year

Almost. Close. In it until the end. One break away. Ref hates them. Should have. Could have. Mediocre spawns it all.

Go back to the house...

When you look at a man you can tell a lot by how he takes care of his property.

Neal Brown is building on top of the house that Dana built. The one Dana built had a wrecking ball to it.
There are some things he reused but for the most part he is trying to create something different.

I compare Neal Brown to Shane Beamer, son of Frank Beamer and first year HC at SC. Both are exciting young coaches with excellent potential to put out some pretty damn good teams. We'll see. Potential is exactly that and no more.
