Well....by as about a good source as you could get.
Immediate upgrade on offense. Younger guy who’s more familiar with NIL and the portal. His dad played here. I would welcome him
Will Stein is a lay up decision. As is Brian Hartline. 1A and 1B.

I like the optics of two former Trinity QBs being HC of both the State's Major D1s.
I used to work for his uncle back in the day. His Dad played for UK under Claiborne. I think Stein would use us as a stepping stone, but would possibly stay longer and wait for the right job. But he could be a lot closer to family here.
Without better NIL to get better athletes I'm not sure the offense is going to be dramatically improved. Jimmy's and Joe's etc.
Been saying in other threads Stein and Hartline are the guys.
Either one would be a home run hire.

Lanning has the lineage being at bama and UGA under GOATs in dynasty mode.
Same for Hartline. Big part of OSU success/dynasty. Learned under Day a GOAT who learned under Meyer during dynasty mode.
Winning DNA lineage folks. It’s not that hard to figure out who is going to have the best shot at success.
Where are they coming from, what is that program currently doing, who have they learned under…

I'd be happy with either Stein or Hartline. Nothing is ever a sure thing in sports, but I think both have the attributes you look for when trying to select a new coach. They might end up being great, average or terrible in the end, but I think both offer a pretty reasonable chance of being successful, as much as anyone else we can name that we could likely land. In many ways, I think I would rather go with young, hungry guys like this as opposed to selecting from the re-treads.
I am not going to reveal the source. I will just assure you it comes from as good a source as you would want.
I'd be ok with Stein. Go after a young innovative offensive mind. Put the right front office support around him and run with it.

I doubt Stein would pass up UK for Memphis or Cal.
Some people seem to think that since the Penn St. search has had virtually no info about it leak out that that indicates that they have reached a deal with Deboer behind closed doors and are just waiting till he decides he's done with Bama. Who knows though.
Both of those are hot names. Either one would be worth taking a risk on. Bit this 9 game schedule and the required P4 OOC game creats a tough schedule.
I’m afraid UK is afraid of a Homerun Hire, is there an old washed up coach that we can get cheap and still manage a 6-6 record? Napier, Petrino, Mullen or Freeze have really nothing going on right now. Mullen is the only guy who has a job, I see Petrino being let go this week.

Maybe doing some analysis on the players you are giving the money to would help with that.
I'm not discounting the chance they could be good but there is no certainty as you seem to be asserting. Their qualifications are similar to John Ray who coached under the legendary Ara Parseghian at Notre Dame and that hire turned out to be a total disaster.

I do not consider guys with no head coaching experience to be homerun hires. They could turn out to be great but that is far from certain based on qualifications. Stoops had one of the best defenses going as DC at FSU but I do not recall anyone suggesting he was a homerun hire.
Reading some of the Florida fans opinions, I’ve seen a fair amount of folks who would’ve rather have taken a chance with Stein over Sumrall.
If it’s too late for Sumrall, go get Chesney. Now.
Yeah, but uhh Memphis isn’t exactly a nice place to live and The taxes at in Cali are ridiculous. Kentucky is his home state. If those are your choices, it’s a no brainer.
Sorry, I've just gotten used to too many "experts" making grand claims with erroneous beliefs.
If Stein is successful, he might decide to stick around longer than another coach with zero ties to UK since he’s from Kentucky and his dad played here.
Stein is probably my #1 choice from the candidates we have a shot at.
It’s not a guarantee but it’s our best shot.
