Will We Be Competitive With Vandy and Arkansas?

Seems to be a trend, we play awful for a few games then something happens, and we win a few to 'make up' for it. Sure, it sounds great that we have won 5 in row, however all 5 of those teams have a losing record in conference play. I'd love to see us win 1 of the next 2 games (preferably Arkansas) - however I would not be surprised to see 10+ point losses - both being different teams than what we have played so far and also away games.

Depends on which team shows up. This is a fragile team looking for a way to lose.

I’m calling a 15 pt beatdown on Cal next week!
Also predicting another comeback miracle win against vandy first ending the week with 7 game win streak. I believe in this team Popes very words. We have turn the corner and finding our identity as just a team that won’t die. Injuries, bs officiating, teams making bs shots, and constant pressure. These Cats will not die. Here comes the rooster and no he ain’t gonna die.

I think so. Don't see Arkansas or vandy putting a 30 plus beat down on us like Gonzaga did.

I also chuckle at how all of a sudden we have 3 dominant starters out all season. We have had so many different dudes start gamed so if anyone misses a game we can claim missing a starter. The myth about this season will be if we were healthy we could done this and that. Not buying it with the poorly constructed roster.

UK will need to play their A game to beat Arkansas

there will be no double digit comeback against them in the second half.

I hope Coach Pope has them ready and a game plan that works.

Cal isn't going to let Kentucky come into his house and win

Anything could happen. We see good teams get blown out on the road in conference play multiple times weekly. We also see good teams lose at home to equal or worse teams every week. I’d personally take a 1-1 week if you guaranteed it right now

Making either game competitive with a chance to win in the last 5 minutes is a win for this team. Scrappy bunch (when they want to be) but a flawed team for certain. Hard to get the Gonzaga and Mich state games out of my head with this bunch.

I think we have a terrible offense and mediocre defense. We are extremely inconsistent. I can see us losing both by 20 points plus.
Going into the Ole Miss game the Cat's were scoring 83.1 per game and the defense ranked 2nd in the SEC giving up 70.7 on the year. Things aren't perfect but I think you are being overly critical.

I think the SEC isn’t as good as last year, but with that being said I think it has parity from top to bottom. Several teams have been beaten in 15-20 point games. There are very few SURE Wins on anyone’s schedule.

I look for the Vandy game to be more competitive than Arkansas. I think we keep within striking distance of Vandy. That Arkansas game could get brutal. Cal will have his teams more ready for this game than any other game on their schedule.
Yes, he will actually watch game film of us rather than walking his dog & watching reruns of "Little House On The Prairie" lol. 🤣

No kidding. One of those “starters” was virtually unplayable for a majority of the season. Another “starter” was signed knowing he might never play. The narrative is rich to excuse how bad this team has been at times. Hopefully they’ve found something and the bubble doesn’t burst the next month or so.

That’s dumb. This team had pulled out more hard fought close games than cal in his last three years. Fragile is not the right word. More like unstable or volatile.
You must not have seen the walk abouts against Mich St and Gonzaga? Really more no shows than walkabouts. Just embarrassing games. Or the walk thru against Bellarmine because our players were affected by Christmas and theirs weren't? Or the Forst half against St John's and IU where they were boo'ed off the court.

Or maybe the games against Ohio St, Arkansas, Auburn, Alabama in the SEC quarters and UT in the NCAA? Maybe fragile is not the right word for those. Quit? That's what it looked like.

No preparation for any game. And fragile is the word for our conditioning. If we even have a conditioning program?

The team is coming out with effort now. And the wins are a reflection of that. These have not been scheme wins. The team should be applauded for effort wins. No one was down on the team or the coach for the losses. They were down on the team and coaches for how they lost. Even undermanned you can play hard. Maybe the record would have been the same? Doubtful though. We probably only have 3 losses with the effort of the last 3 games. Save for the effort in the first half against UT. We win against UNC had we tried to win. We win against Mo had we tried. Maybe even against UL had we tried to play?

The players deserve all the credit. They are having to overcome the coaching as well as the opponent. We were back to our hope we make it offense yesterday and our hope they miss defense too. Fortunately for us Miss ran the same offense as us. Just dribble around and finally go one on one. We were more aggressive to stay with the man. And Miss made that easy to do. The couple times they did set a screen they were wide open. They never took advantage of our overplaying defense. Two poorly coached teams playing ugly basketball. Someone had to win and I'm glad it was us.

Pope's anal-ylitics probable show we played well. So he will do more of it.

What's "dumb" is to not have questions about this team. A five game win streak is great. It's also very possibly fool's gold. But even if it's not it will never erase what they did this season in MSG and Bridgestone.

Vanderbilt's best non-conference wins were St. Mary's and SMU.

Vanderbilt lost to Texas, who we beat. 6. Vanderbilt played them @ Texas. We played them in Rupp. But Vandy lost by 16. This was a part of Vanderbilt's 3 game losing streak. We'll be underdogs, but BBN travels well to Nashville. Our guys have their confidence sky high. I think we have a good chance to take the Vanderbilt game.

Arkansas also went down to the wire with LSU. For all his overthinking and failed analysis this year, I think Pope is a smarter x's and o's coach than Cal. I think Cal is better at getting NBA talent and getting those guys to play hard. He's not always the best at figuring out how to best use them or put them in the best spots. Cal has lost to Evansville and UNC Wilmington in Rupp. Is anyone REALLY going to be surprised if he loses to a Kentucky team that is currently 2nd place in the SEC?

I'll say we split. I think either/both games are winnable. I think we could lose both. But I think we'll be in it.
