The biggest clusterF@#k ever. Firing JF in the middle of the season only makes sense if you had a replacement for sure that you knew would take the job. At this point Kraft has no choice but to scour the NFL for someone who could do the job. He would be best served to save what is left of the program and hire Terry Smith who would be a much better choice than floundering around the NFL for someone else. We are done as a top 10 team for at least 2-3 years unless Terry is hired. JF has already taken our top recruits and will dominate recruiting in Pa. And the DMV. Notre Dame and Ohio State will also claim many recruits. Kraft has destroyed PSU football to an extent we may never recover and be relegated to the cellar of the B10 as a laughing stock stock of a once great program .
If we recovered from Jerry Sandusky, we can recover from Pat Kraft. That being said we are looking to be BAD in 2026 and not too much better in 2027.

As Pogo says. “We have met the enemy and they are us”!

We are not the first school to be destroyed by “bad” management of the football program by top administrators. Here’s a few others:

Pitt in the late 60’s - the Chancellor decided all students were required 2 years of foreign language. The program struggled for 10 years till Johnny Majors gave out 100 scholarships in one year!
Notre Dame’s Priest for an AD decided a coach from a catholic high school would work. Gerry Faust set the Irish back 8-10 years.
There are others.

So Kraft will join a list of bad AD’s or Presidents.
Following Faust, ND also eased up on their requirements for acceptance of football players. Tony Rice would not have been allowed to play there in Faust’s time.

I worry that NIL + revenue sharing could make this worse than recovering from sanctions.
  • Players were allowed to transfer when we were under sanctions but they couldn't be lured away with money. Now the poachers can offer money.
  • During the sanctions we still had a limited number of scholarships. Now we have fewer than we did under sanctions.
I guess the good news is that once we have a coach we can lure new players with $$$. The problem is the top kids will have committed elsewhere by the time we have a coach & staff.

We might here from Neeli....

Kraft is toast unless he gets Kirby f*cking Smart at this point.
Oh, so our football future hinges on an Indian academic lady? Somehow I think Louisiana's governor embarrassing himself a month ago is better. God help us of Neeli starts driving this bus. We cant fire kraft at the moment, no way.

As I understood it, she was in favor of hiring Terry Smith. Given that that could have been done long ago, I don't think she's driving the bus at all.

I just talked to NLC. To have them remove me from auto renewal. To quote, if Pat Kraft is AD I will not be renewing my season tickets.

Where, exactly, did you "understand" that from? I would seriously be interested in knowing.

Bright side: Now the nation has reason to both hate us, Sandusky, and to laugh at us, Kraft!

The transfer portal is delayed for teams/players in the playoff. That might help us. a lot depends on how fast Kraft can end this **** show. Won't happen, but Kraft should donate half his own salary to NIL for the mess he created.

Have you read the posts?
Football isn't going to cease to exist. We're not going to be unable to field a team.
As I've said throughout...2026 was always going to be a down year...nothing has changed. The coaching hire isn't about 2026. I'm confident we win more games next year than this unless we promote from within.
I have NEVER made those comments. I have, however, tried (apparently without success) to explain to you that there is cause to be concerned about a number of problems that are quite real and are impacting the team negatively. You choose to ignore them and instead go after anyone who does not think things are just rosy.

Hence I said "did you read the posts"--my comment is about the general attitude
There isn't cause to be concerned--we all knew (or should have) known a hire wasn't coming until after CCG week. I've said that throughout.
I'm not ignoring anything. You and others are overly concerned about the 2026 and reacting with emotion right now.
This hire isn't about 2026--it's about the next decade.

If we are hiring a coach that is coaching this weekend, doesn’t that coach need to lose in order for all this to end?

He should come out with something, even if ends up being 100% BS. Something like, I know the lack of information has been worrisome. I understand. Trust me that we are getting close and when announced, Penn State Football will be in good hands.

Unless he pulls a golden rabbit out of the hat, he is f d at this point anyways. Might as well double down and say something reassuring on worst PSU signing day ever.

No...why would they need to lose?

It was getting past the CCG not the playoff

If he's f'd anyway isn't that more reasonable not to speak?

Making a statement doesn't help him pull said rabbit, nor does it prevent him from being f'd when he doesn't, so a statement does nothing.

I'd rather hear from the President and BoT..... that they've gotten off their empty-suit, pathetic asses, stepped in to this unacceptable situation and fired Krafty The Clown.... and promoted Terry Smith (a true Penn Stater) to a Permanent Head Coaching position.

Not going to hear anything for awhile - headlines are bad now but the administration would rather wait for the news cycle to play out than rush into a multi-million dollar commitment for their 5th/6th choice after Early Signing Day passed.

We can be annoyed it's dragged on this long, but what does rushing into a choice to appease message board posters and talking heads on ESPN solve at this stage of the game? What does commenting "Everything is fine" do but draw more attention to a matter that's going to drag out for possibly weeks longer? It just creates more headaches than giving nothing 🤷‍♂️

Wrong, the President / BoT stepping in immediately and announcing Kraft's termination and Terry Smith's immediate promotion to Permanent Head Coach does a hell of a lot more than your "head in the sand" bs. It shows that there are responsible people at the the helm of the ship and taking action to limit, and begin repairing, the massive damage Kraft (a non-PSU "traditional b1g" lifer - grew up in Midwest {IL] and graduated from Indiana) has done.

And if he had a coach but he had to wait for an announcement until after the championship games wouldn't that information be important to share with recruits. I guess they would leak it but I have a hard time believing we have some great coach but we can't announce it until after the championship games.
And if the BYU guy was his top target I think that was nuts. He's an alum of BYU and a West Coast guy and obviously all these schools have big donors that are willing to step up.
I think we should have went after Chesney. His ceiling is high.

Hiring Terry Smith is not a responsible decision, it is a desperate one.

Because of the massive damage Krafty The Incompetent Clown has done - Smith is in the best position to limit further damage, triage the situation and start turning the tanker so we can have a 2026 season that is something other than an unmitigated disaster. If you don't understand this, your ignorance and lack of cognitive power really doesn't bother me in the least - that's your problem and a problem you will continue to have to live with.
