We typically have the majority of fans in their arena when we play them, but this year is different. The game is earlier, it’s on a Tuesday and their fans haven’t been showing up to games

Do you think we still have the majority of fans there?

It could help with the outcome

I think half of the Louisville fans are typically just UK fans that are born and raised in that city region. They’re asked to support the local university so they do it but when nobodies around even they are all UK. Everyone else in the state, US, and World are UK. Lousville isn’t really real, it’s just a commuter college inside of Kentucky and some of their locals feel sorry for them.

So it doesn’t matter. There really isn’t such a thing as “Louisville fans base”. No different than Western “fans” who are just UK people from that town. The clip of that midget no name coach begging students to come to games tells the story.

Those players however, they’ve got a real chance to be seen tomorrow. Kentucky is coming to town, tell your parents. The highlight of a Louisville basketball player is telling their grandkids not where they played, but that they played Kentucky.

“in Rupp Arena grandpa? What was that like”.

Even Rick said I’m going home to Camelot.

LOL, I'm a UK fan, but come on. We do not typically have "the majority of fans in their arena when we play them". The lone exception might have been two years ago, when they were so bad that your statement might have actually been true.

At best, we will have 30-35% of fans there, but even that is probably optimistic.

I think they have a few actual "fans" , maybe that went to school there . But most "fans" just have daddy issues and picked them out of spite. I have reformed a few in my day lol. It's a lifelong affliction though. I kind of feel bad for them. If you meet a female Card fan, I swear to you, she's got daddy issues. You can treat it.

Yea I couldn’t imagine being a Louisville fan in this state. I’m sorry I just don’t understand why you’d want to be overshadowed and forgotten, sit in arenas with 4K people and not be part of BBN. I honestly don’t tolerate them at all. My boss is a UL fan and I asked him what the hell man? He says his son went to school there and he just gives them support but Kentucky is where his heart is.

I see that often. I think they’re just like Western really. But growing up outside of Kentucky I never met a UL fan and didn’t know they existed. My father always said he would root for them in the lower ranks then had to stop doing that in the early 80’s because of how jealous and awful they are. So I guess they exist but they are 100% invisible across the state and in all other 49 they’re non existent.

For a city school Louisville actaully impresses me with fan support. They show up well at Tournament games etc.

I know it’s cool to act like they suck, and they do, but they are impressive for a **** second hand school from a small state.

That city should kiss Crums *** for not taking the UCLA job twice offered and Howard for being mad at Kentucky.

Yea I’m the opposite. For a program with 3 titles and top 10 wins, I think it’s unheard of to have that little fan support. There are programs with way less that have way more. Louisville is also not nationally relevant and known. it’s amazing how little people think about Louisville across the country. If you are not from Kentucky you don’t even remember them. For a program that has a decent pedigree like that it’s pretty surprising, really. I would expect it to be so much more.

When you might not have the majority of fans in your own city, that’s incredibly bad. Take Tennessee for example. UT doesn’t control half of Memphis. It’s majority UM fans. Ole Miss doesn’t control Starkville Miss St does. This is the same for most places around the country. UL might be the only program I’ve ever heard of that doesn’t control their own region. Gotta disagree it’s a hella weak fan base when you consider it all.

Denny Crum was a hell of a coach, and an even better human. I love that when they were done, he and Hall were friends.

The only person to wear that red I will ever truly respect.

I don’t know and wasn’t alive, but I’ve always been told by men that were around at the time that Crum was a pos. The class act of Kentucky was Hall. And I’ve been told that forever so I don’t know. Hall got along with everyone. I know he didn’t want to play UL that came from him directly. He said there was no reason to platform them. But seems like Crum decided it was in his best interests to radio with Hall, I mean with Rupp and Pitino and Hall, he is largely forgotten nation wide so attach your name to Kentucky someway.

Crum was apparently a really good coach, but he was at the wrong program. UL is just too irrelevant for coaches like that. Pitino made a mistake going there and never regained his reputation as a goat. It finished him bad across the country. I don’t think he realized it until it was too late. Today you’ll never see a coach like that take on UL. If Pitino can’t get multiple titles somewhere then it’s not for good coaches. I think that’s why they’re constantly turned down today and no name brand coach wants it. Too overshadowed and now with the ACC going away it won’t even be in a major conference. I’ve always said people in Kentucky don’t realize this but outside of Kentucky they are totally unheard of and not thought about. It’s in Kentucky they have some kind of recognition but even then it’s minor.

It's hard because 1. We're a dominant blue blood - so schools like UofL, Murray and WKU (whom all have historic and successful programs) do get overshadowed. 2. We've had the big name coaches- Rupp, Pitino, Cal. Those names are known worldwide by CBB fans. WKU and UofL had Crum, Pitino, and Diddle. All well known in the state, and maybe nationally (but not as much anymore I bet) but outside of Pitino- not world renowned.

There's only a handful of times I will ever pull for UofL- and they are against our hated blue-blood rivals.

That’s another way you know they’re not much nationally. I’d pull for UL, like you, against Duke UNC and Kansas. I’d pull for UL against Memphis. They just don’t matter enough and at least they reside in Kentucky. So you’d never see me pull for UT, or Duke, or even Memphis. But there are times I’d pull for UL.

And if I’ll do that, you don’t matter as a rival. Is what it is.

Lol, c'mon bro. I like what you're doing here, but we don't typically have more fans in the Yum when we play. We do have a lot tho. Enough to do Blue/White and C-A-T-S chants and piss them off. Cats are gonna have to defend the 3 point line. They have lots of shooters. Honestly, last season they were struggling to hit 3s until they came into Rupp. Cats got the dub tho, and they went on a run.

I will never forgive Louisville for wrongly firing Kenny Payne after just 2 seasons. They should have given him at least 10 years to turn things around.

Yea the game should have never been played to begin with. UK should have rotated them with the rest of the mid majors in the state instead of platforming them. They have used the Kentucky brand to grow their own.

Hall said he fought to kill it but it got to the point where there wasn’t any longer an option. He never wanted to play it and none of the other coaches around the time did either. Just no reason to do it.

Man it kills me just watching UL players talking about the game, kinda flexin. So proud to have all those cameras asking them about the game. You can tell they just don’t get this kind of recognition any other time. Then the dreaded “Louisville been on the receiving end” questions and the record comes out. Their eyes kind of wonder like they don’t know quite how to handle it. They just say yea, we’ve got to change all that yada yada.

It’s just a pathetic display and I think UK needs to drop it and rotate them with the rest of them (Western, Eastern, Morehead etc). Announce it’s not fair we play them yearly and others don’t get a shot. If they have a problem with it point to the record and say look it’s not a rivalry anyway.

I’ve always wondered what Crum would say if he came back today and saw how bad it is. He’s the one that lobbied to hard to do it. He’s the one that says we’re scared. I’d love a direct question asked to him phrased as a question about was he right or wrong.

Crum was a really good one. It’s a shame he decided to do that at UL where it’s not recognized. People out of state have no real idea who Crum is that are 45 and below. You win 2 titles and nobody knows who you are? That’s bad.

People even know who Ray Mears is lol. Or Gene Keady. Or Boeheim. The list goes on and on. But mention Crum outside of Kentucky and you’ll get who’s that?

Crum also started the myth that UK was afraid to play UL, because they had black players who could dunk/were athletes or some BS. I remember that was a big talking point.
