Telling stat for this game. Pope about to adjust to give Garrison more minutes IMO

I’m not sure why he didn’t play Garrison more. He had great energy
My opinion is that playing Williams too many minutes has been a problem all season. Williams' effort and body language has been a problem and will continue to be a problem. It is clear to me that most of the time Williams is giving about 3/4 effort and this isn't nearly good enough for SEC play.
I never want to watch Williams play basketball again, couldn't make a free throw, turned the ball over, when he goes into an offensive move it's like watching a horror movie where the girl goes down to hide in the basement.
The good: Williams had 13 points 11 rebounds(game high/tied with Nelson). And a couple blocks
The bad: -20 and only 1 assist and more than a few turnovers

Neither Williams or Garrison are good low post players. Williams can’t shoot and cannot play strong enough to dunk 1 foot shots. Garrison is raw and improving some, but can occasionally hit the three-ball. Both have to rebound and play defense better, although Williams has a decent rebound average per minute.
He’s going to have his ups and downs. Just wish he could’ve kindled enough energy for this one
Garrison what he lacks in talent makes up for in hustle. He should get more minutes than Williams at this point.
I agree with you. WHY is he not putting out a 100%? Wanting to conserve energy and stay on the court?
Watching Williams play drives me crazy. He plays the game with his arms at his side. He makes a couple good passes every game but he’ll make just as many stupid passes. He’ll get a couple blocks but for most of the game you won’t even know he’s there, Big Z is as good of a rim protector as he is. Just low IQ basketball out of him
Pope is exerting too much effort trying to keep his commitment to Williams when clearly Williams isn't deserving of all the minutes he is getting ahead of Garrison. Garrison has a much higher ceiling than Williams and should be getting more floor time which will payoff tremendously at the backend of this season.
It's not just Williams or Garrison, Brea has been missing easy layups and instead of elevating his game, he's regressing at the worst part of the season.

I was waiting to see what the numbers were. I know when Bama went on that 10-0 run, it started immediately when Williams entered the game. Sorry not sorry, but the guy just isn't athletic enough to compete on a consistant basis. He's just not.
Garrison has earned himself more minutes.... here's the big question below.

To be fair he’s played much better recently but games like today Garrison needs more PT.
Williams has been pretty good lately because he hasn’t tried to do too much like earlier in the season. Today he went back to trying to be the man we we didn’t need him for that. Brea took some really bad shots at very important parts of the game also. Carr has got to learn from Alabama and get to the free throw line more.
I’m really not a fan of +/-, especially when a game like today when that could have entirely been dictated by Williams being in during the early stretch where Bama went nuclear from 3

I don't think OP's stat is accurate. StatBroadcast has Williams at -10 and Garrison at +6.
Was wondering how the spread between the two was that wide when those guys mostly split minutes and the final spread was 5 points.
His level of effort is tied directly to whether things are going well for him or not. That is unacceptable. He pouts the minute things get difficult for him.
Brea misses a lot of easy shots in the paint. He isn't shooting real well right now. Hope he shakes it.
I liked the way Williams and Garrison played today. Williams missed too many free throws and easy shots. I did think he was fouled several times that weren't called
Hope Garrison goes to big man Camp in Cali over the summer. He needs to learn how to use his body. He is not skinny, he is strong, has a good base but plays like he is 40 lbs lighter. Williams is what he is at this point. His FT shooting today was sub par but he has been serviceable at the line this year. His issue is getting pushed around for someone his size, losing almost as many RB as he gets and not knowing how to play in Popes offense 100%. He sometimes slows the ball by thinking too much and then a TO due to the delay of the pass. Garrison needs more work and has time for that work. Carr is the bigger liability on defense right now and hopefully it is because of his back and not being able to go 100% all game.
Garrison plays like he is only 6-7 or 6-8 with 200 lbs. He is getting pushed around too easily. I think he is 240 lbs, should be strong enough already. Do not know why.
It has already been causing problems. Pope has just been pretty good a diffusing it to a manageable level. Williams clearly knows that Garrison is a better player.
Weirdly, KSR has Williams -15 and Garrison +6. Same basic arguments still apply but I hadn’t realized +/- was so subjective.

I’ve said this a few times in other threads, but I can’t remember a player whose positive impact on a game is so much less than his stats would suggest than Williams’ is. The guy can fill a stat sheet, but he seems to be a net-negative so much of the time. There are so many times a game where the guy simply watches a guy take a bunny over him w/out lifting his hands or simply doesn’t jump to get a rebound. And I never feel good when the guy starts dribbling into a spin move near the bucket. It feels like an automatic TO. I agree with others. He just doesn’t seem to give 100% much of the time.
To be fair this entire team misses a ton of shots in the lane. They are collectively awful at the rim.
Garrison played well at times, but he took a 3 on a huge possession. Then didn’t stop the guard on a drive and alley oop. That felt like a huge shift in momentum. Both are flawed and we will need both to play better to go far in March.
also, not saying it was the case today, but sometimes the starter is playing vs other teams starters. a sub comes in and plays great,,,,,,but hes playing against other teams backups. again not saying that was the case today but it could skew the numbers
