He will not be playing in the D-leauge unless it's under a large, guaranteed deal from an NBA team (meaning he made the 15 man roster somehow).

He will have a nice career in Europe as a rebounding specialist.
I wonder how much you can make as a spot player and riding the bench in Europe?

Deniz makes 100k+ as a 3rd unit PF in Turkey............. but he's a "local" and Turkey's league pays better than the average....

I'd say Dev will start out at high 5-figures depending on where he ends up. But you have to remember, he gets everything else in life for free pretty much. Food, room, clothes, walk around money, even a car sometimes....

What a mistake. He's two inches too short for his position, no vertical, no outside shot, doesn't play defense at an NBA level. Doesn't block shots. You would think Juwan Staten or Joe Alexander would tell him how good you have to be to play in the NBA.

D-League, here he comes.

His and Huggins' comments speak for themselves. Williams is gone, regardless of whether he has retained an agent at this point.

True. I get the impression that he is just sick of school and wants to get paid, which is fine. I guess I'm just bitter because I think we would have a good chance at the Final 4 next year with him here. Now, not so much.

Good honest post, DC. It's hard to blame a kid who has started for three years in college for wanting to move on with his life, especially, if he can make $100,000 or so to play basketball overseas.

We are not fundamentally solid enough to make another run like that, with or without him. We are going to take a step back defensively and that is what will hurt us the worst.

Later Devin. You're making a mistake.

Devin is doing what he thinks is best for him, as every one of us does in our lives. I wish him well, but the odds are against that.

Other than Jerry West and Hot Rod Hundley, how many WVU players can you name who had long, profitable $$$ runs in the NBA?

As usual, I will cheer for whoever is wearing WVU uniforms.

I am not sure how long Ron Fritz Williams or Rodney King Thorn hung in the NBA.

I don't quite share your pessimism......I still think we will be good, just not final 4 good. Dev isn't going to play in the NBA, so if he has an opportunity to go overseas and make good money, then good for him. That's his right.

The odds aren't against him earning a decent living overseas, and playing a fourth year of college ball wouldn't affect this one way or the other.

If there was only something a person could gain by attending college a fourth year that would be financially beneficial down the road.........

...oh well.

Wow... surprised he'd make this move. We all have our opinions (I think it's a colossal blunder) but we should wish him luck. He'll need it.

If what I have read on here is true, then Devin is close to graduating now, and could take whatever classes he needs to graduate online.

Let's just be real here.... ...just mail him the diploma and be done with the wink-wink crap.

In my opinion, this move makes perfect sense. Devin has played for 3 years here at WVU and has likely hit his peak this season. There is a chance he could have an even better season next year, but I think the odds that even a better season will result in improved draft stock are low. He has physical limitations compared to other NBA players at his position which he cannot improve with another year and it is the biggest hurdle for him to make an NBA roster. Senior season or no, Devin likely winds up on the same career path. I'd say his odds of injury or hurting his future career is higher than improving his professional career with a senior season. So unless Devin values an extra year in college for education purposes or has an internal desire to see WVU compete for a championship, there is little incentive from a career/income perspective to stick around.

...oh well.

You mean like his degree in MDS? Which he can complete online and will likely do so before the end of the summer?

An entry level EURO contract is about 3x the amount of an entry level salary for a MDS degree holder

Devin will make more playing in Europe than the vast majority of you who post here and will be happier. Hell, I make more than the vast majority of you.

Hopefully Devin has a sucessful Euro Basketball career. Even though I would like to see him stay and play his senior year for The Mountaineers, i wish him luck. It was fun watching Devin and his fellow Mountaineers this past season.

Thanks Devin and Good Luck.

Fluid and not final is the only way to describe this right now. It doesn't sound to me Devin, his mother nor Huggins knows. 2 of those 3 admitted so yesterday. The other didn't do interviews. Without inking an agent, no, it's not done.

Many contradictory reports, statements and quotes. That's the only fact I see. Huggs is super annoyed by this I gathered.

My opinion is that release by WVU Sports Information yesterday was nothing but 100% canned PR. I wouldn't be surprised to learn Devin nor Bob Huggins said those quotes at all. What it reflected was refuted later the same day by both Williams' mother and Huggins.

Unfortunately this is being poorly handled. Could be avoided pretty easily. Should only announce news when there actually is news & attribute it accurately. Declaring & undergoing evaluation is not the same as wrapping up forever one's college career. Just don't see what was gained by putting this out yesterday.

Agents by the way are a dime a dozen. In this case, having one guarantees nothing except that college ball is done. It's not nearly as glamorous as it sounds/looks & there are many who absolutely don't broker significant deals. They'd be getting around 4-10% I believe in sports realm...I'm not sure what quality an agent would take this on when considering possible valuation.

If I was in this position, I'd get my evaluation/scouting report for all desired platforms of pro basketball. If the prospectus grades highly, next look at the pay. If that is befitting, go for it.

I wish him the best either way & enjoy watching him play basketball.
