Just came across this - I'm surprised I've never heard about it before.

I don't know anyone involved or directly affected by it but I remember it well.
My childhood home is fifteen miles away. I also remember it well. Can't drive by without looking at the different colors of the blocks once the repaired it

I knew two brothers who were working on the site the day it went down. Both were heavy equipment operators and on the ground when it happened, however they were part of the effort to remove debris and pull out the survivors and the dead.

Both of them gave up construction after the recovery efforts were over.

Not sure how old you are, but can't imagine you wouldn't have heard about it when it happened.

I think everybody in the area either knew one of deceased, or their families, or knew somebody else that did.

Rafone's account of the construction workers ... there were a lot of similar stories like that at the time. Very gruesome scene. I was 9 years old when it happened. It really shook communities around that area.

I remember it well. I was in high school when this happened. My girlfriend's brother worked at Willow Island and they feared the worst. It took several hours before they heard from him. Of course he didn't work on the construction crew but at the time nobody knew who was involved.
