because he didn't make a play on the ball and intentionally tried to trip a player who was making a play on the ball, that's why

Think it was the UVa game earlier this year where he fell down under the basket and grabbed a guys leg to keep him from having a run-out to the other end. Could have injured the other guy. He is a dirty player. Can't wait to see him try that stuff in the NBA -

Okay, but that isn't in accordance with the rules. I would like to have a good explanation on how that play is a legit F1.

Well, it was definitely a foul, but since nothing was called during play, once they stopped the clock for a review, it had to be a flagrant or nothing. I think it was the right call. He was clearly trying to impede the UNC player, and he succeeded in keeping him from possibly getting to the ball. And there was no legitimate play on the ball, as others have said.

Actually if you get beat and just grab the jersey that is an F1 too. Call happens on fast breaks a fair amount though not as often as it should.

I looked it up and according to the source, the F1 replaced the old "intentional foul." So, you and a few others are correct. That makes it the correct call.

It was a kick in the nuts and that is a f1 unless no nuts were involved...Duke plays dirty, always have.

I hate Duke as much as the next guy but come on. Winslow is awesome. The kick was totally unintentional and Bilas is ignorant for stating other wise. The trip was a trip but he was just playing hard. When did everyone become such a puss.

I honestly cringe at threads like this.

I mean, someone just called him a thug. Nobody here knows what kind of person he is.

You may be the only non-homer that thinks it was unintentional. Good Lord.

I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but how can you unintentionally kick someone in the nuts when said nuts are at least 4 feet off the floor?

Not entirely that easy. More that has to do with it being completely unnecessary. Its like the rules in football nowadays. You can still block and tackle but you can't do anything deemed unnecessary to commit an ordinary block or tackle because now it is a personal foul. You cannot tell a blocker that he isn't allowed to block a defender in direct pursuit of the ball carrier. But you can't take a running sprint and take the defenders head off his shoulders. That is now a personal foul because it wasn't a necessary action that was needed to make the block. Similar thing in basketball now. Was the contact necessary? That's what the officials are thinking to determine flagrant 1 or flagrant 2. Gone are the days of " he wasn't playing the ball, so its a flagrant". That still factors into intentional but not flagrant fouls.

And Anderson punked his *** out too. Winslow had the deer in headlights look when Anderson turned around. It was great!

5 star, how dumb do you rate yourself? I would hope fairly high as that is how you are viewed here. Obvious dirty fouls but whatever, suck it.

None of us can judge his intent, but the kick looked intentional. The trip definitely was. Idc either way I can't stand any of the. I don't understand anyone on this board taking up for any Duke player, because they do play dirty. Watch the last minute of the 1st duke Carolina game this season. Winslow or Jefferson literally wrapped both arms around a Carolina player to clear the lane for a Tyus jones layup that helped send it to overtime. I suppose that's playing the right way.

The point is that it wasn't his first time this year doing this crap. Yes, I would say his play borders on dirty.

The word "thug" gets thrown around way too much. The kid did everything he could to try and help his team get the ball back. We've had players do questionable things, whether it's a flop or a play for the ball that wasn't necessarily legal. Get off your high horse. You want to see a "thug" in basketball, YouTube the late '80s Pistons. Stop criticizing every other team that has a player get a "flagrant" foul. The sport has become way too soft in general.

I also hate it when people use the term thug. I never use it.

That does not change the fact that he committed two fouls involving kicking and tripping. And it isn't the first time this season we have seen this sort of play from him. He could injury someone with some of the stuff he pulls. That is not acceptable behavior. He deserves to be punished by officialdom the court and he deserves to be reprimanded off the court by whoever is willing to do so.

Are you seriously this dumb?

That goes for everyone else describing his THUGGISH actions (intentional trip and Bruce Lee impression) as "playing hard."
Please.

I hope you are being a little satirical, the NBA addressed the foot kick a while back. It is just like pushing off with your hand but much more effective if you can elevate.

Hes a competitor, he got a little carried away but really not a major deal. Call the flagrant and move on. I wonder sometimes how some of you whiny asses ever survived high school.

Clearly they were not accidental, hope he tries a little more stuff like that in future games, maybe against UL in the ACCT.I'm sure Harrell would take a different approach to it than the UNC player did

Andrew Harrison has been called more than once for an offensive foul for the exact same so called "kick" is he a dirty player? This thread leads me to believe most of you all never played basketball or if you did were so unathletic you never took it to the rim. The same way a guy clears space with his arm, sometimes he does with the leg as well. Does it look like a kick? Absolutely, is it an intentional kick? Absolutely not, just clearing space, happens all the time just so happens he was able to get full leg extension instead of half leg, or just raising his knee up to clear space. No more, no less.

Clearly we see that play differently, had a player done that in the days that some of us played on the next trip down the court he would have somehow ended up in the 3rd row of the bleachers

honestly, I have no issue with that, that's some Bill Laimbeer type stuff though and that is dirty. For me a dirty play is sizing someone up like your saying you would do. Jamal Magloire and Boogie were dirty players, love them, Boogie may be favorite cat ever but he would try to hit guys in the dick when the ref wasn't looking and has been tossed in the NBA for doing such. I just can't get with the fact that Winslow went to the basket with the intention to kick that guy and not with the intention to make the shot.
