Oh awesome! What areas have you been to living up there? I spent my whole life in the capital district and the Adirondacks, aside from college in Manhattan.

Here's a fun tidbit of that area (and an effort to get us off of politics).. one of THE hottest "WAGS" (Wives and girlfriends of athletes), is a girl named Rachel Bush. She's married to Jordan Poyer of the Buffalo Bills. She was actually born in Newcomb, NY, not far from Plattsburg. Newcomb is one of those "one stoplight" type towns, with literally only a population of 500 people. So imagine THIS girl being from such a podunk type place..

I have an old coworker from there, and he basically says she was, and has been, the talk of the town. There's literally nothing up there.

Belly button ring is not color coordinated with the rest of her jewelry. Definite psycho-slobbo vibes from that.

Also, probable lack of adequate thigh spacing given the way she's standing. Still, I'd say she's a solid 6/10.

Watching Jacob Ellis win gold is my favorite moment so far. 16 years after shitting the gold away she finally gets redemption. What a story.

I wanted to see White medal but he still did everything he could and I respect that. What an icon and a class act. It really is amazing how fast that sport is growing. In the end he was a true champion and he will be missed

My issue remains the same. If the event relies totally on the subjective scoring of a judge or judges.... should not be a freaking Olympic sport. Figure skating and big air snowboarding can be wonderful entertainment but should be between competition events. If you want to score them, use viewer votes like The Voice. It would be more fair. BL: The participants are great athletes but those are not competitions that grab my "sports" interest. They are the same as a beauty or singing contest to me. Interesting but not the same.

Fly higher or farther. Go faster. Score more. That is an objective determined outcome that has more real drama and interest. If hockey were judged like figure skating the USSR would have been awarded the gold in Lake Placid.

So happy for nick Baumgartner. The guy is 40 and gave his life to the sport. He makes a small mistake and misses the medals. I felt terrible for him at this point then he gets chosen for the team race with LJE and then he wins the gold. His first medal at that age. What a moment for them both

So a failed drug test now means you can still compete in the Olympics. Even though the IOC has said if this 15 year old Russian figure skater finishes in the top 3 they will not have a medal presentation ceremony.

I wouldn't mind figure skating.. but can't get past the fluff.. the theatrics, the fact that it's half "dance", Johnny Weir speaking ..

I dont mind sports that are decided by a score or a grade, but this is waaaaay too subjective for my liking. Just do some spins and the first one to not fall wins.
Any sport that is judged sucks. Period.

Well the Russian female figure skater has just stumbled twice and fallen early in her free skate. So not looking good for her to place in the top 3 let alone win.

She finished 4th.

Thank goodness for our freestyle skiers. We'd be in like 9th place if not. They might be the only discipline/sport that really showed up this Olympics.

Overall it was a pretty forgettable Olympics - of course the biggest story was Russians getting caught doping and still trying to compete - any idea what kind of ratings it’s bringing in?

Summer Olympics are 10x better and way more interesting sports

I agree. As mentioned earlier, there are far too many "judged" sports in the Winter Olympics. Unless you are an aficionado of the sport you have no idea who did best.

The Summer Olympics has more sporting games with actual scores. Even the summer timed events are more interesting as athletes go after Olympic and World records. The timed events in the winter games usually depend on the venue itself, and the records don't carry over.

they need to change up the sports to mix the seasons. Like curling, but in a pool instead of on ice. Or 100m dash but in the snow. Or bikini figure skating.

I'm amazed that a country with the approximate population of Minnesota is able to rack up medals like Norway does. Yes, I know it's cold there a lot and they get lots of snow, but that's still a lot of world class athletes to pull from a very small pool.
