Winter solstice!

[TheGlovStillRules]

At 10:59am on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, we welcome the Winter Solstice, which is considered to be the astronomical start of winter. During the Winter Solstice, the Northern Hemisphere will have just 8 hours and 46 minutes of daylight, resulting in the longest night. After today, we will slowly regain sunlight until we reach the longest day on the Summer Solstice.

Well, given that there are two Hemispheres, and that the path of the sun takes it over the Equator twice per year, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that there are two Vernal Equinoxes (one for each Hemisphere) and two Autumnal Equinoxes (also one for each hemisphere)?

Vernal equinox | Definition, Dates, & Facts | Britannica

The term vernal equinox refers to the two moments in the year when the Sun is exactly above the Equator and day and night are of equal length; also, either of the two points in the sky where the ecliptic (the Sun’s annual pathway) and the celestial equator intersect. Learn more about the vernal...

I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but when I went out this morning to get the garbage cans it was much colder than yesterday.
