Difficult match-up for the Cats. Wisky plays a tough man-to-man which will hurt the outside shooting looks for NU. Badgers have some good outside shooters against the NU zone. Hopefully they will have a let-down after playing MD to the wire today.

Will be very interesting to see what our strategy is against them offensively and defensively. We might change it up a little bit for the reasons you just stated.

Listening t the Collins post-game after Minny, he said the guys like playing zone even though he prefers man, so I suspect we'll still see some variant of a zone on defense. May try to get Joey involved early to create some space for Calzone......

I am more worried about the upcoming stretch this month when we play Maryland, Indiana, Michigan State, and Iowa in a row.

Hehe. Autocorrect finally strikes.

With apologies to Turk, is he
Aaron Pepperoni Falzon, or
Aaron Supreme Falzon, or
Aaron Deluxe Falzon, or
Aaron "Even though it's less common, I prefer Stromboli to" Falzon ?

I think winning any of those games will be a bonus. All are much better than NU (except maybe IU having lost their second best player). Much more nervous playing winnable games like UW and even PSU than MSU or MD.

Man we got to take care of business against teams like Wiscy and dOSU, who are slightly down this year. That loss against dOSU still stings.

Yeah, like it or not, we've gotta consider it a major bonus if we pull off even one of those.
DCWildcat and I will be at Maryland-last year's collapse was tough to take. Maryland defense completely stymied Rutgers and can eliminate our guards ability to penetrate and dish

With Olah out, zone has probably been necessary to help protect our centers,

I think NU would have been a zone Big 10 team even with Olah. When he is dragged away fro the basket t defend a high post he just doesn't have the foot speed to guard a man cutting to the bucket and is prone to foul. NU played a lot of zone last season if I recall correctly.

DePaul sliced up NU's man to man at the beginning of the second half of that game. A switch to the zone by the Cats was a key element in their come-from-behind victory.

I agree we are a better zone team than man in most cases. However, Wisconsin may be one team we match up reasonably well with in man. Their best players are Nigel Hayes and Koenig. Hayes is a wing- I think we have guys that can D up there (Sanjay first and foremost), our weaknesses in man defense are more at the bigs (Olah too slow, JVZ fouls too much, Pardon may be best of the 3) and the guards (Tre and BMac are okay not great, and we would rather not have them running all over the court if they're playing 38 minutes). Koenig is a solid player but I don't think is the type to roast people 1 on 1. He gets shots in the context of their offense and creates for others but I think isn't great at creating his own shot.

I agree with your analysis.

Agree on Koenig, Ricko. Damn good player, but not so much a one-on-one guy.
