We have enough who can play the 4. Wolf is a 5 who brings different skill sets than Cliff but it doesn’t change his position. He will likely be the starter after Cliff leaves.
Their starters 1-4 (not listed in any particular order) were:
Pickett (6’4”)
Wynter (6’2”)
Funk (6’5”)
Lundy (6’6”)
Cliff averaged 30mpg last year, and late in the year played 32+ minutes in a large majority of the games.
Maybe foul concerns will limit Cliff's mpg so he won't be 32+ over a full season, but if Wolf is strictly the backup 5, then Cliff playing big minutes will limit Wolf's minutes.
I don't even think it is an overly optimistic viewpoint to think Wolf will develop enough which forces Pike's hand in terms of playing both Wolf and Cliff at the same time. Could we not see Wolf getting 12-15 mpg next year? I def think that is possible.
So yeah, like us, good size through the 1-3 spots making up for the lack of size from the 4 spot.
And indicative of how the PF position is utilized much differently then it used to be. "Power Fwd" is probably not a great description of the position anymore.
I think Scangg called this out earlier, but until Mag is back in the rotation I think Hyatt is the only guy on the roster currently who really plays the 4, so someone else will have to fill minutes off the bench at that spot out of necessity. Out of the available guys, Woolf could end up being the best fit to fill those minutes.
Cliff playing 25-28 minutes would benefit him more at the end of the season by keeping him fresher if Woolf makes the progression we expect and stay out of foul trouble.
Chol could get minutes at 4 too (hopefully)

Cliff playing less minutes next year then he did this year seems very unlikely. He'll probably play more.
I hope he plays about the same ~30/game because Wolf plays so well and offer such a different look

Chol is the obvious other option at the 4. If he is ready, there should be some minutes for him. If he's not, Wolf playing a few minutes at the 4 becomes much more likely
Yes, one of the many uncertainties for this upcoming season.
Can Chol contribute at the 4 and maybe a little at the 3? I'd love to see a small ball lineup with him at the 5 (if he's ready for that), but I think that may be too radical for Coach Pikiell.
What makes it that you'd love to see the small ball lineup w Chol at the 5? I don't even know if I want Chol on the floor yet. Need to see him play a couple minutes before deciding if and where he should play. I get you if your dealing with "ideally" here. Just curious.

Based on his HS highlights plus a year of practice it’s realistic that he may that kind of contributor
It’s also realistic he may not be - like much of this years roster - high variability
Really if he's at all a player, he should be contributing, at least a little, in his second year in the program. Especially when we don't have a known commodity who will play a large majority of minutes at that position.
I admit I don't know his HS resume at all though, did he come in as some sort of long term project? A guy who picked up the game late?
I felt PSU was one-dimensional. At least Rutgers will have options of having guards who can drive to create their shot when the outside shot isn't falling. That gives Rutgers a better chance to stay in games and possibly win without an outside shot.
They got lucky with roll of the dice stuff. Shot really well against several elite teams to pick up big wins. Had their poor shooting games mostly against bubble teams on the road so didn’t look like bad losses.
He has a Trevion Williams body who played with and without Edey in the game.

I'm pro Chol -I'm hopeful - but realistically he would be behind Palmquist at the 5 and at the 4 until proven otherwise. In fact, I would have Wolf only a hair in front of Palmquist with a lot of situations favoring Palmquist. Injuries aside, we would need only one of Wolf, Chol, Palmquist to step up and be a solid off the bench offensive contributor.
