Woodson comment about Kopp. Ouch

Woodson knows what he's doing and might be able to get something of a rebuild going at IU. But I think the fact that they took a player such as Kopp as a transfer from NU in the first place shows how the sun isn't as high in the horizon for the Hoosiers these days as it used to be. I doubt they'd even have considered Kopp some years back. After all the years of sharpshooting Indiana guards, it's been interesting how they've often struggled from outside of late.

Glad Woodson didn't play along when a reporter tried to bait him into saying Buie pushed off on the winning shot (looked like a good play to me) and instead gave Boo credit for the shot.

Boo definitely pushed on the last shot. But credit to him for making the shot in a high-pressure situation. I get why Indiana fans were sour on that play. At the same time, have someone help Galloway on that play! You know we’re running iso heroball as the clock winds down. Who do you think is taking that shot and what move does he love to make in that situation?

He banged into Galloway, but he didn't really extend his arm. On a drive to the hoop, that is almost never called. You could also argue that Galloway was not in position, so it could be a block. A no-call is the best call for that situation.

Kopp's problem is that he is a one-tool player. If he's not hitting those long open looks, he really looks like a liability (though he's adequate on defense usually).

In the post game interview Woodson (at about 3:20) said that Kopp struggled to shoot the ball, he's done that for 2 years. Ouch.

No offense, but you are hearing that comment by Woodson about Kopp incorrectly.

"He struggled to shoot the ball. He's done that the last two years."

He was saying Kopp has shot the ball well for two years.

No way Woodson would think (or say) otherwise.

I like Woodson. He didn't whine about the refs, chose to take the high road. Indiana fans are notorious thugs, some have even posted death threats to their own players. Indiana players, including Killer Mopp, have fought back.

I like Woodson as well. Class act publicly. Strikes me as very knowledgeable, no BS and a motivator. I also think his comment on Kopp was just scrambled a bit. During the season Kopp has been shooting well and defensively he has been a plus. His importance to that team has grown.

Watching the post-game comments by Woodson last night it seemed he was referencing only Koop’s struggles shooting against NU.

Agree with this take. So much whining about a push off online. No-call definitely made the most sense in that sequence.

With all the crying of opposing fans, my epicaricacy is reaching new heights!

I just don’t see what some of you see with Kopp. He stands around the whole game waiting to be set up. His percentage is higher because he rarely shoots unless wide open. He never creates any offense and the only rebounds he gets is when the defender gets lulled to sleep by his inactivity.

I also don’t see him as even adequate on defense. Boo’s eyes lit up anytime Miller was in the same zip code. I thought we even game planned to be aggressive with whoever he was attempting to guard.

Beran gets heat all the time here and imo he is WAY better than Kopp. Barney is also more valuable. Miller is a weak link at Indiana and even if he makes a winning 3 pointer at some point, he is a liability most of the game. Might be a great kid, but I never liked anything about his game and his outward body language has always sucked. Fighting with fans on line, No thanks. Get in a groove and change minds. Thanks for your service, but I for one haven’t missed him for even a minute.

Actually, not a fan of Kopp's overall play and demeanor at all although I think he has been working hard on his intensity on defense based on the games I have watched and also based on opinions from BTN analysts. Woodson likes planting him in the corner and I guess that works for them.

I think Beran gives NU a big body, mobile defender and rebounder. They don't ask him to be an offensive whiz. Works for me. If he leaves next year, NU will miss him as they need that athletic size and talents.

There is a lot of room between thinking Kopp is a really good college basketball player and thinking he doesn't deserve to have FU Miller chanted at him by several hundred people.

Kopp was not and is not a good defender. Buie eats this guy alive every time they play. Audige should have taken him to the hole everytime they matched up instead of pulling up. Kopp can not stay with a driving player. His “intensity” might be increased but he’s not quick enough to stay with most players. He’s a good shooter with a nice release. He has some height which helps his shooting over defenders and rebounding. He can’t create his own shot.

Give me Berry any day. Even if Kopp shoots better Berry at least gives you defense and rebounding.

Kopp is one of the most over-rated players in the BIG. At the next level he'll likely end up in a "B" league in Slovenia where the opposing fans will not be terribly nice to him.

I doubt there's any fan base in the country, let alone in the B1G that spends 1 second thinking about him.

The exceptions being the NU and IU fan bases. Which I think only over rate him in the sense of talking about him way more than he deserves. Not in the sense of finding him a better player than he is.

I am thrilled the students taunted him, but the FU Miller chant was way over the top. My comments are not an endorsement of the chant, but an opinion on his value to a contending B1G team.

Right... I think that's where most of us are - thinking we've upgraded from him on the court, but still not happy to see him get cussed out.
