I hate 0-0 matches, who doesn't, but there is really no point in griping about the lack of scoring in soccer or the WC, you know it is a very low scoring sport before you decide to tune in.

I watch the US matches during the WC, and then maybe the semis and finals, it is different pace and game that I can enjoy a little bit every four years. Just have no interest in the sport month in or month out.

But really not much different than the Olympics, we all watch every four years, but week in and week out, you couldn't pay me enough money to watch a swim meet, or the hammer throw, or the javelin, or about 80% of all the Olympic sports, and no one else does either. If they didn't have national flags on their jerseys, no one would be watching.

I would say we stood up to ENG and then some. Not sure what analytics will say but we controlled the game for long stretches and had the closest chance to a goal. Suffice to say the expletives were flowing in pubs throughout England. Its totally fair that we have to beat Iran to advance.

...and had the closest chance to a goal.
Not sure I agree with that. I thought those first two point blank looks England had and blew were the best two opportunities of the day but certainly after those we had the best chances.

Its a bizarre game and only speaks to the sad state of the world this is the most popular game. Watching soccer alone should make us all proud to be Americans with all the sports options we have here.

Americans best athletes don't play soccer and if they did we would dominate this tournament. As it is, we have 0 shot to ever win it with our F team of athletes representing the country.
Yep, that's why I watch many forms of soccer over all USA sports ex CFB.

6-6+ height people suck at soccer with lack of feet control & agility. Maybe GK. Like to nobody over 200-210# have the stamina a 90 minutes world class soccer match takes. Hoops players are gassed in less than 40 minutes with tons of stoppage times & not getting constantly knocked around. Even the 6-4 center backs weigh only that. So we're talking hoops guards & football WR's in fitter shape than their current sports take that have the athleticism soccer takes.

I came to soccer appreciation at over age 45. Never played on a team.

What you need to learn to value is the difficulty of controlling the ball and the scoring chances setup up even when they don't succeed. The give & goes are just like hoops. The holdups are like hoops' high posts. The long over the top passes are like football bombs. It's just that doing those with a foot or head is infinitely tougher than with your hands.

Net, I didn't mind the 0-0 outcome. Followed intensely the whole way. And if it wasn't so difficult to score, there wouldn't be upsets.

Really pleased with Sunday games, refs gave the benefit of the doubt to defender most of the time, led to a lot of back and forth, wide open play, free flowin play. What a story on the German striker who tied it up.

Heard today the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia buying each member of their Team a Rolls Royce Phantom as a gift for their win over Argentina.

I don’t have a ton of confidence we beat Iran. Think Iran will park the bus and play for the tie. US lack of striker isn’t going to help.
2 of 3 results favor Iran which makes it especially difficult.

It would suck to go undefeated in WC qualifying and not get out of the group. If we had ball strikers I would be more optimistic but we don’t have those guys. Pulisic can barely get the ball to near post on corners.

We have a guy on the bench I think could be a difference maker in Acosta. He’s our best server on corners and serving set plays. He’s our best ball striker period. this attack up the middle garbage isn’t gonna cut it vs Iran. A guy like Acosta serving early diagonal balls would get us deep in the attacking 1/3 and having him at right mf serving balls from about 30 out would be our best option. I might even do something crazy like play mckennie up top with weah in a 4-4-2. Mckennie can win those direct balls in the air off acostas foot.

This game ain't finishing 0-0. Even if Iran park the bus, US is still more dynamic than Wales. And Iran don't have Harry Mcguire clearing aerial balls.

Iran reporter getting pretty cocky. **** those guys. They'd get desert stormed so fast if they played around too much.

A tie vs. a win changes very little to advancing to next round.

Couldn't be further from the truth and today's match is a perfect example. Not sure how anyone can think that needing 3 draws to get the same number of points as 1 win changes very little to advance.

I’m a little curious why Gregg made the change at CB. I like Carter-Vickers, but it seems random. Also weird that we once again don’t get Reyna.

For being "defensive minded," Iran leave a lot of space open.

As the game goes on, US will get chances and just have to take them.
