Been in cash since August. Markets are too scary for me. I was in cash all of 2008 till March 2009. I avoided a huge meltdown. So far, Yellen has strayed from Bernanke's stock market prop up policies.

22, sure you and I aren't making money. But sometimes it's fun to just sit back and avoid losing. In 2008, with markets dropping almost daily, I had a blast. Many I know took major, major hits.

I was in & out of the market via going short in 2008/2009. The same the past 4 weeks. Money can be made when the market goes up and down. These swings are great for trading.

Sunburnt, I'm one to believe you're making money when you're not losing money! :)

Although its hard to do, this could be a huge money making opportunity. I was too afraid after the last one and missed out.

You are on the right track. Buy low and hold. It may take longer than you think but patience is your friend. Right now, don't under estimate cash.

Good point bama. Especially if you are wanting to retire soon. Feel sorry for the guy who is heavily invested, expecting to retire this year, and then this happens.

I'm too old to Get Rich or Die Trying.

Rubio was at ease talking to the crowd of 150 or so (it was -10 actual when we arrived)
He did take a couple of questions from me; I'm still uncommitted.
My youngest advised me that the donald drew 3-4000 at UNI's old West Gym last week...

I had 100K in a savings bank during that period and made an average of 0.48% interest, which is extremely paltry. Thanks, Bernanke. I guess that's better than having LOST some of that money, but it's hardly "growing your wealth" (not that I actually have much wealth to speak of).

Obarry & Crazy Uncle Joe have given us plenty of laughs for a lifetime. It's time for fixing not continuing the Utopian lunacy of the last 7 years, in my humble opinion of cOUrse !

Yep, just for the historical snapshot in time...like when I went to see Jimmah Carter when he was running in a hastily erected circus tent at the Tulsa Int. Airport.

Aint no thang really.

Probably better for me to move on from this thread as it is heading toward a pissing match about politics. But you folks go ahead and enjoy yourselves without me.

Yawn, 30 years until retirement.
Looks like a good buying opportunity in 2016 for a guy in my position...

There are no guarantees that any of us will live to see tomorrow. But if you have 30 more years of work in front of you, I send my deepest condolences. Man, that would suck.

Ia, you can have considerable impact by participating at your local caucus. Go do your duty.

George W won the Iowa caucus both of his terms.....I think. I know his won in 2004, but pretty sure he won in 2000 also.

Edit: Just checked. Obama won the 2008 Democratic caucus. How soon we forget....or how soon can we forget.

Therein lies the rub: I have to work (primarily) to maintain health insurance for myself & others; 2nd shift hours, No 'absentee' caucus available, SO do I burn 2 hours in the middle of the shift to do my civic duty ? (and there is no law that says my employer has to approve my leave)... (to be fair, that may not be an accurate statement, and I've enough "seniority" I probably wouldn't be denied) but it definitely would not be convenient. I want to do my duty but maybe I would be by not participating considering the options on either side of our current system...
