Would love for Kessler to reclassify.

If he comes to Duke and stays 2 years.
Would be great to get him as a 4th big next year. Not sure he will be physically matured/developed to do anything next year, much like Baker this past year.
But I'm sure he'd become a much better player over the next 12 months batting Vernon Carey Jr everyday instead of high-schoolers.

Hoping Duke gets 1 more big who is not 1 and done.
Looks to still be a few in transfer portal who were 3 star recruits.
Coach K has come with a surprise last second recruit last 2 years.
Good things often come in 3’s.

wouldnt mind one more big but not kessler. would be a waste of a year. let him come next year. i think the center position is set with vernon and javin. power forward is hurt and i think jack. add in justin robinson (now listed at 6'10'') for a spot minute here or there and we are good. its not like k will play or develop depth anyway

If it were me I'd take the senior year and all the accolades. You're only young once. The reclassify thing hasn't exactly had stunning success at Duke so far. Other than Bagley. Who was very successful, but he was really good.

That is a good point. I just think 1 more big is needed. 1 injury to Hurt or Carey and there will be one scorer and 2 defensive players/rebounders.

I think having Jack return to his November/December playing ability is even more important than adding another big.
Jack is the perfect 6th/7th man (backup 4) if he can hit the open 3 and give above-average defense, like he has shown before.
Hope he can do that but will believe it when I see it. His confidence took a big hit last year.

Jack gives me some concern. I just keep picturing him getting man handled by Luke maye in the post. I don’t think he should be guarding really big/strong 4’s

The problem with this scenario is that there is a high likelihood that none of these guys will be around in 2021. In a perfect world Duke would sign a post player willing to sit and learn in 2020 but good enough to play some in 2021. Or a traditional transfer, who would sit out next season and be ready to take the court in 2021.

Duke only has 10 recruited players right now, so scholarships are not an issue. But it is the end of May and the pickings are pretty thin.

I’ve been told by many Duke fans that we don’t need any more players. The roster is set. Something something chemistry something!
You may be on to something. Funny you bring up the fans saying we don’t need anymore players. Why do you think more stars didn’t commit to Duke? Possible they look at the roster? Would Hampton have strongly considered Duke had Tre not been here?
Most coaches would kill to have Tre, Carey, Hurt, Moore, Stanley, Baker, Delaurier, Alex, White and Goldwire.
Why did you change your mind Boogie?

You might want to remember this old saying: not everyone can do the cooking. Someone has to wash the dishes.

Yeah the reclassify thing not working not working out is not one of the smarter things I've said. I'll wave the white flag on this. :)

Hahaha....

It didn't work with Alex Murphy, obviously. I think we still owe it to Joey to let the process play out.

I thought it worked with Derryck Thornton quite well, but his 'people' didn't think so. It's pretty sad that four years into college for him, his best season is still as a true freshman (who re-classified) at one of the best basketball universities in the country. One can't help and wonder if he sometimes looks back and regrets his decision to leave. Oh well.

Mike Gminski was a reclass who turned out okay.

Yes he was and thank you for bringing up his name. Jim tell me if I'm wrong. Wasn't he like 16 his 1st day bonus campus? Another question. The rankings of high of high school players weren't quite as thorough as they are now but Street & Smith always had them ranked. I used to collect them aND that issue has long time seen the dump but I don't think Mike was ranked very high even as a junior. Also wasn't Jim Spanarkel pretty much way down the list. Both of those guys along with Gene Banks and Taylor Vince had a lot to do with our recruiting success. Banks was so big a recruit. Coach K of course has magnified greatly our recruiting but so happy we got those guys. OFC

Tinker Bell was a huge get for Duke. He is one of my favorite players.[/QUOTE

Remember that dunk over Sampson and at his senior day when he passed out the roses. What a class act. Dennard and Banks. So long and thanks. OFC

My recollection is that Gminski was a camper at a camp where Terry Chili was a counselor. In those days players stayed under the radar for a long time and Gminski wasn't well known. Chili recruited him to Duke before anyone else knew about him. In my opinion it was the best thing Terry Chili ever did for Duke basketball.

Am I right on the story Jimlsumner?

Does anyone remember the monster dunk gene banks had on Ralph Sampson back in the day? Plain nasty

Sure do! K's first team. Went 17-13 and made NIT. Banks broke wrist against NC A&T in Durham. Jim Suddath I think started in his place vs Alabama in Cameron, and had his career best game. Duke advanced, but lost at Purdue. I think had they won they may have advanced to New York. OFC

Anyone else at the last game in Cameron when Banks threw roses to the fans, hit a shot to tie the game and then hit the shot in OT to win the game?
